It's way easier to use
It's based on powers of 10 which are attached to prefixes
It uses prefixes that mean exactly the same whenever they're used irrespective of the type of units being used ... length, volume, area and whatever
The math is simple ... just moving the decimal point left or right as far as necessary
and best of all ... because the prefixes have a definite meaning ... you don't have to know heaps of different conversion factors with all sorts of weird numbers ... you just have to know what the prefixes mean
