Do You Like My Country Song?

ARTIST: JON MALCOM

TITLE: RUNNING IN FIELDS

I woke up again night

Having a nightmare about last nights firefight

Three men dead the streets we’re red

Fire everywhere but I close my eyes and I almost hear

Chorus:

Momma saying “honey, suppers ready”

Dad asking if I wanna play catch

My dog licking my face on the front porch

I’m giving his head a scratch

And then I take your hand

Look into your eyes that’s my shield

And dream of you and me running through fields

Running away from all the bullets

Running away from all the pain

Running away from the all the fire

I’ll see what this dream yields…

When we go running in fields…

Working overtime is in my job description

For the pain in my heart there’s no prescription

I just try to do my job the best I can

Caring for my brothers, every woman and man

Spreading freedom from sea to sea

But that doesn’t bring you back to me

But I can almost hear:

Chorus:

Momma saying “honey, suppers ready”

Dad asking if I wanna play catch

My dog licking my face on the front porch

I’m giving his head a scratch

And then I take your hand

Look into your eyes that’s my shield

And dream of you and me running through fields

Running away from all the bullets

Running away from all the pain

Running away from the all the fire

I’ll see what this dream yields…

When we go running in fields…

Sitting here in my tent

Pouring my love into letters

Even though my soul’s been spent

I’ll still feel better

Because every time I put the pen to paper I close my eyes can almost hear

Chorus:

Momma saying “Honey, suppers ready.”

Dad asking if I wanna play catch

My dog licking my face on the front porch

I’m giving his head a scratch

And then I take your hand

Look into your eyes that’s my shield

And dream of you and me running through fields

Running away from all the bullets

Running away from all the pain

Running away from the all the fire

I’ll see what this dream yields…

When we go running in fields…

Ohhh

When we go running in fields…

You have a great hook and great story line. A tip I can give you is to try to keep each line of each verse as close to the same sylablle count as possible... ie. Line 1 of Verse 2 should have the same amount or close to the same amount of sylablles as Line of of Verse 1. This helps the melody to flow from verse to verse. Great Work, and once again Great Song!!!!!

A similar song was quite popular almost 40 years ago:

Galveston, oh Galveston, I still hear your sea winds blowin'

I still see her dark eyes glowin'

She was 21 when I left Galveston

Galveston, oh Galveston, I still hear your sea waves crashing

While I watch the cannons flashing

I clean my gun and dream of Galveston

I still see her standing by the water

Standing there lookin' out to sea

And is she waiting there for me?

On the beach where we used to run

Galveston, oh Galveston, I am so afraid of dying

Before I dry the tears she's crying

Before I watch your sea birds flying in the sun

    At Galveston, at Galveston

Keep going. Don't give up. Sell it. Every rejection just gets you that much closer to a sale. Jimmy Webb, I'm sure, was turned away by a whole slew of stupid execs before the above masterpiece actually sold and Glen Campbell got ahold of it.
