All these "kids" asking us to answer their homework questions, do you feel smarter than a 5th grader?
I spend a lot of time in the Politics category and every day there are handfuls of kids asking government questions. Many of us haven't had any formal studies for decades. It's a compliment that they are looking for answers from us, but shouldn't they do their homework some other way

I like what Orpheus has to say here, and I think it's particularly worthy as he contributes as he does.
The knee-jerk reaction is to say "They should research and learn for themselves!". But how realistic is this -- or even true? In today's world, the volume of sources is so great that there is no need to fudge answers the way we all did in school. [And there is a lot to be said for learning to shop for expertise.] Asking for help sure beats shoveling outright baloney which (as recent years have shown) is often what people do in the high office or business positions their education earned them, where the cover-up and the art of the sound-bite was about all that was learned.
To tell the truth, it's hard to decide where to draw the line. I would say buying term papers or test questions is a step too far. At least the person who looks for help here on Y/A must READ the answers and choose which one he thinks is best for his purpose. So he is bound to learn something, even quite a bit about the material he has been assigned.

There is helping them with their homework, then there is doing their homework for them... I have done both. A single, well asked question I will answer to the best of my ability, and I have spent up to 10 hours researching at times to help someone with a research paper.
I do this because I would like to see a better world. Those who just want their work done for them... I had someone ask a list of 15 questions on gas law and temperature/pressure/volume that I answered by giving them the page with all the formula for doing the work themselves.
A 5th grader has twice the information I had, and about 10 times the info of those from WW2 schools to learn. There are times I would ease the burdens of some, but I will not become an enabler... I look at how often they ask for homework, and what type, I have even helped one or two of them with personal issues over the last few years...

I Thank You for such High Praise my Spiritual Brother titou. I tend to view it as making the Earth a better place one person at a time. In a small way I feel my good deads for the day have been done if I can "lesson" the burdens of a growing mind. Honors to your House, your Hive, and your Tribe!

Honestly I just feel cheated that Y!A wasn't available when I was in class. How I would have loved to just 'ask' for all the plot points, correct pages for quotes, or an entire written essay.
In seriousness though, it is disturbing. Already it feels as if the world makes too many allowances for children. The world is being childproofed, and schools are becoming idiot proof. Is there even a special education class any longer? I'm certain most of those children could keep up with normal curriculum now.

I asked the same question before. They were given the assignment for a reason or else the teacher would have given them answer.
They need to learn research skills on their own. I hope there are teachers out there looking on this thing and finding the cheaters. If it is a really difficult thing you can hint but I would't do it for them. They won't learn valuable skills involved in soving problems.

It makes me sad that kids don't ask their parents for help with their homework anymore. They rely on strangers online to help them.
It would also be nice if they listened in class and learned something rather than looking for people to give them the answers.
