How do you feel about "Messianic Jews" such as "Jews for Jesus"?

For those unfamiliar, Jew for Jesus, is funded by Christian groups and preys on the young and uninformed for missionary purposes. Messianic Jews, are not Jews by the law of the Torah but rather christens. For more information on this cult like group and their tactics do some research and check out the site www.jewsforjudaism.com (they are an anti missionary site.

    Wow! lots of bitterness here!

I do agree that the Organization "Jews for Jesus" are a very christian group and why do the Jews need saving, saving from what?

The Jews need to get back to Torah and away from the Talmud as the basis of their beliefs.

What is a "Jew"? Is it someone who is born into a blood line? Yes.

Are they someone who follows a group of men that call themselves Rabbi's and hold to the teachings of the Talmud? Very possibly, yes.

Are they someone who follows the Kabalah? Possible.

Why are they SO concerned about the title of these people that call them selves "Jews for Jesus" when their own house is full of skeletons, Kabakah, Talmud, etc.?

Yes, the J.F.J. are a problem by trying to "save" the Jews but not ALL people who believe in the Torah and have the testimony of the Messiah Yahshua are Jew's for Jesus. Just like not Jews are Orthodox.

I am a Messianic Believer, I live by Torah to the best of MY ability, I also believe in Yahshua as the Living Torah. I do NOT try to "save" Jews from their own beliefs. But to a christian, who doesn't understand Torah or anything about the Tanach, I am "Jewish"! They think that the Sabbath and the Feast Days were given to the Jewish people and since I live by those standards, in THEIR eyes I am Jew.

What is a Jew by Torah? Someone who observes Shabbat? Or maybe Keeps Sukkot for one day instead of the eight, including the last great day, that are commanded by Torah? Or is a "Jew" by Torah standards someone who is of the tribe of Judah? Yes to the last one, definitely.

There are many of us "Messianic Jews", as every body likes to label us, out here that love the Jewish people and love the Torah and love our Messiah Yahshua, who ISN'T Jesus, that want to "share" our understandings of the Messiah and the Torah with anyone who is truly searching for the Face of Elohim, the El of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

I don't "target" anyone and am definitely NOT anti-semantic. I am more of an anti-Jesus person. I believe that there is a great undermining of the Word and of Yah's will with that name.

Josh G. what do you mean by this? "Take sukkot and the preparing of food for eight ghosts to appease them to get their blessings."

This sounds like you are making up a bunch of fairy tales, either that or you are quoting Kabalah or trash from the JPA!

What are the eight ghosts in Sukkot? I have never seen anything about ghosts in Sukkot. Please add a scripture to validate your statement.

I don't know much about the specifics of the group. I know this is a hot topic for a lot of jews though who don't like the fact that they use the term "jews" in their title.

Personally I don't see what the issue is. The groups are always very clear that they are messianic, which of course, makes them different from them saying they are just plain jews and then springing the Jesus thing.

To me, "messianic jew" means a christian who keeps many of the tenants and traditions of the torah, whereas regular christians do not.

So I think the jews who have the problem with the term "jews for jesus" or "messianic jew" are over reacting.

If a group can't even tell the truth about who they are, why would anyone believe anything else they had to say? (this is why they prey on the vulnerable and less religiously educated) It is acceptable that Christians or Muslims or Evangelicals must evangelize or proselytize as part of their religion. BUT not acceptable to lie, cheat, steal, or kill as part of the process. This is exactly the place both Christianity and Islam have crossed the line in the past. Today these so-called "messianic" groups trifle with the souls of the unsuspecting, in the past they killed. It's one short immoral step away.

They are dishonest. Christianity was started by 12 Jews taught by Jesus almost 2000 years ago. You are either a Jew or a Christian. "Messianic Jews" are not Jews and are ignoring 2000 years of Christian history. What they are is fundamentalists Christianity and that is what their theology and historical ignorance and disrespect for the Church started by Christ Apostles lines up with.

I loathe them. The founder of 'jews4jesus' has been caught out admitting that the group exists *purely* to hoodwink Jews into becoming Christians.

‘jews for jesus’ was founded in 1973 by Martin Meyer an ordained ***Baptist***minister. He had been a missionary for several years in the past geared towards converting Jews to Christianity, when he was unsuccessful he came up with ‘jews for jesus’.

Founder of biggest Messianic group admits: We Are Christians Out To Convert Jews:

In the document ‘What Evangelical Christians should know about Messianic “jews” , Martin Meyer, founder of ‘jews’ FOR JESUS: reveals:

‘We are an arm of the local **Church**. We are Evangelists. We are accountable to the Church. As we win and ***convert*** Jewish people, we urge them to take their place in a local Evangelical **Church**, or establish a congregation. Our duty is to aid the **Church** at large and to gather in the Lost Sheep of the House of Israel.’

    - from the book ‘Holy Terror’ by Conway and Seigelman

'jews4jesus' was the first "messianic jewish" group.

There is NO 'messianic' sect IN Judaism.

    Messianics = evangelical Xians

"messianic Jews" and "Jews for Jesus" are similar in that they are both Christians pretending to be Jews. No Jew on earth views either of these groups as anything other than Christian fundamentalists who use deception to try to trick Jews into converting to Christianity without even realizing that had converted. They also are similar in that the vast, vast majority of their members never were Jews to begin with, but rather have been Christians since birth. The very few Jews who fell for their deception and call themselves by these names are no longer Jews.

They aren't Jews (except for the apostates they've gathered).

*All Jewish groups agree that organizations such as Jews for Jesus and Messianic Judaism are not Judaism. Consider the following response from the Central Conference of American Rabbis, the Reform Rabbinic organization: Individuals who feel a vague attachment to one or another religion pose no problem for those religious groups who leave identification solely in the hands of the individual. Judaism, however, does not do so. It is not the individual who defines whether she is Jewish but the group. For us in the Jewish community anyone who claims that Jesus is their savior is no longer a Jew and is an apostate. Through that belief she has placed herself outside the Jewish community. Whether she cares to define herself as a Christian or as a 'fulfilled Jew', 'Messianic Jew,' or any other designation is irrelevant; to us, she is clearly a Christian. It is true that this individual may be somewhat different form other Christians as she continues to follow certain Jewish practices and folkways, but we should remember that various Christian sects do likewise. For example, the Seventh Day Adventists observe shabbat as their day of rest. There are some Black Christian groups who also follow specifically Jewish observances, and there have been other groups like this in the past centuries. [They] should be seen as outsiders who have placed themselves outside the Jewish community. This should be made clear to them and to the Jewish and general community, especially as many such individuals are active proselytizers. Such individuals should not be accorded membership in the congregation or treated in any way which makes them appear as if they were affiliated with the Jewish community, for that poses a clear danger to the Jewish community and also to its relationships with the general community. We certainly do not want these individuals to speak for Judaism in any public forum. In conclusion, we should make the distinction between ourselves and these individuals very clear to them, to the Jewish community, and to the general community around us."

First of all Messianic Jewish believers in Y'shua (Jesus) see 'Jews 4 Jesus' as a Evangelical Protestant organization and NOT Messianic Jews. Please don't call J4J Messianics, the Messianic Jewish community does not condone their action nor their tactics.

"8 ghosts" refers to ushpizin prayer said in sukkot. And once again gentiles confuse haskafah with halachah.

Anyway having breakfast with my 89 year old grandfather, I asked him this and he said,

"What meshugoyem! Don't they know that messianic judaism was founded by evangelical Xtians! Their views/;opinions are not accepted by mainstream Judaism!"

OK, so he did not say that, but he DID agree that in democratic societies, any group or individual can label themselves whatever they choose and adopt whatever beliefs suits their tastes. Within mainstream Judaism, however, a person's status as Jewish or otherwise is conferred based on a long-accepted and standing tradition.
