Medical school in Egypt or New York?
I've lived in New York City since I was three years old and now it's time for me to apply to college. I really wanna study medicine and become an MD but I know it's extremely expensive here and I'll be paying off college tuition for years after I graduate. Also, to become an MD here requires almost 9 years of study after high school. I really wish I can go to college in Egypt, especially that I speak perfect Arabic..masrya aseela ya3ny and most of my family is in Egypt. I'm just having a hard time convincing my parents to let me go there for college. What do you guys think? Is this a good idea, I mean, education in Egypt in college is pretty good even though the system there is terrible...the education isn't bad at all, much cheaper, and I would be in my country. Also, how can I possibly convince my parents? Btw, if I go, I would be living with my grandparents. My parents won't leave NYC until my brother finishes college. I also have an older half-brother in med. school in Egypt but he lives in Mansoura and I would be in Cairo.
I reallyyyy want to go to Egypt and I need your help!!!
Merci ya gama3a =)
@ YO! fifth account- I don't think the AUC has a medical department but I'll look into it.

If anyone decide to answer a question,, it is very important to be frank, as it is matter of honesty,, anyway
NO dear , I would answer Yes 20 years ago,, but now,, No , the education in Egypt degraded very much,, It is enough to say, There is no One Egyptian university from the first 500 world wide university list,,,that was the newest disaster announced,,, Now , lets say you will be a good student and try to have an international level ,by your own effort , still you will face always the look at you, as a graduate from worse than the first 500 universities in the world,, and that will affect a lot on your (freedom ) to work even in some Arabic countries (not only in the west),,, so stick to New York and after graduation you can come , and stay in Egypt if you want,, while that you can visit from time to time,,, It is matter of future,, and I can not mislead you...
*No medical school in AUC
*AUC is not even number 4 university in Egypt.. Cairo. Ain shams ,Alexandria are a head of it in the list (lots of aspects determine the score)

Stay in NY, get your education and then, if you wish, come to Egypt to benefit your people from this education.
Being in NY and being able to get education there is an asset that many medical school graduates can't even dream of. You'll get A-grade education and a degree that will give you the freedom to choose later your future. As far as the number of years are concerned, medical school here takes 7 yrs, so what are you saving? 2 yrs? Not worth it. Plus, once you graduate from here, and if you want to do post- graduate studies abroad (which I think are basic to a dr) you'll have to go through the hassle of equating your Egyptian degree. That takes a lot of studies too. About expenses, the university (provided it's a national one) is cheap, but you'll have to take private lessons (that's what's in fashion now) in most of the courses and the fees are by the thousands. If you'll join a private univ, the fees are a lot and you won't receive quality education like the one offered by Kasr el Einy, for example. Things here are fine for those who are fighters with a lot of patience. You'll face everyday and every course and every professor with some kind of struggle.
I'm not talking about the quality of the education. What I'm criticizing is the system. Education is very good and we have great drs here, but those are the fighters and the ones who had to complete their education abroad and were honest enough to come back to Egypt and serve their people.

Honestly I think New York is much better. I also want to study medicine and become a doctor, but I would rather study here. I do want to study abroad, you could do the same. And you get to choose how long to study abroad for a semester, a year, whatever. I have family in Alexandria and I told them about my plan and they are soo happy, but I can't leave my mama and papa I would first of all break there hearts and im a baby i cant leave them.
I was looking at the American University of Cairo (AUC) so check it out.
Edit: Youre right they don't.
