Insurance Requirements for a dog treat business?
Hi
Am looking into starting a small business in my spare time making organic dog treats and cakes for the local area. Someone mentioned insurance in case a dog gets sick from my lovely baking.
Any ideas?

Well, the only insurance required by law, is workers compensation for your employees.
If you want coverage, in case someone sues you over their sick dog, that's called product liability, and is a part of general liability insurance. If you want these to be carried in stores, the stores will most likely require you to carry general liability.
If you want coverage for your stock, that's property coverage. If you plan on delivering them yourself in a company owned vehicle, that's commercial auto liability.
Keep in mind, if you're baking these up at home, it could void coverage in your homeowners policy, having a business exposure at your premises. A kitchen fire caused by baking doggie treats, MIGHT NOT BE COVERED by your homeowners insurance, as this is a COMMERCIAL exposure.

Employers liability is compulsory. Public liability is not compulsory, but it should be! Your home insurance also needs to be amended to show that you are working from home. You will also need a license from your local council.
