What does 'Bhaiya Duj', 'Bhai Phota', 'Bhau bij' mean to us ?
This has Deep spiritual meaning.
Is it same as 'Raksha Bandhan' ?
When do you think this started ?
Lucky are those Brothers who have lovely Sisters ! ??
In 'Rakhi' celebration why does Brother give gift to Sister?
Think Over:
This Indian tradition is Age old: When people used to stay in caves. Youth went to hunt for the family where Old, Children and women stayed back. The persons staying back applied Tilak and tied band on hand after praying to GOD to make them successful.
Whenever the youthful members used to face face problems out, they were encouraged by the Band (Rakhi) and thought of the prayer by the loved ones at Home. This helped to overcome difficulties(by mental positiveness) and came back successfully with Gifts in return.
This event is celebrated best by 'Bramah Kumaries' (best in Value Education), when they ask for gift in paper marked to "Renounce Vice" as this will help in future, even in truthful business.
This culture will be forgotten by future Indians (like other ones) and misconstrued later.
Helping or defending some loved one out of sight is best achieved by Prayers.

All the three are the same ritual . In Bengal it is 'Bhai phota' , in hindi dialect it is 'Bhai dooj', in bhojpuri dialect it is 'Bhau bij'. It is not the same as 'Raksha bandhan' but the message is almost same. In 'Bhai Dooj' the sister prays and wel wishes for her brother by way of encripting a tilak in his fore head while in 'Raksha bandhan' a brother prays and wel wishes for his sister.

Raksha bandhan and these festivals are different. Basically these three names which you mentioned are one and the same. They are called by different names in different names in India.
After a major festival, a lady comes her own home (her parents) from his in-laws. She meets her brother and hence this festival is celebrated. Unlike raksha bandhan, there is no tying of the raksha sutra or rakhi in this case. just a tilak and aarti may be.

Bhai-Beej
Bhai Dooj is a festival celebrated by Hindus on the last day of the five-day-long Diwali festival. This is the second day of the bright fortnight or Shukla Paksha of the Hindu month of Kartika. On this day, sisters pray for their brothers to have long and happy lives by performing the Tika ceremony, and brothers give gifts to their sisters.
