How can mm/min be a measurement of flow?

Shouldn't the units be a volume? What does mm/min mean?

mm is millimeters of length, min is minutes in time. You are measuring something as a length over time. So something can flow for example 23mm in 5min.

mm/min is millimeters per minute which is a velocity. Many times a velocity is given or obtained for a liquid in a pipe or maybe a river but something that has a boundary or that is full and flowing at a rate or velocity. By taking the cross section of the area and multiplying by the velocity you get a volume per minute which is your measurement of flow.

mm/min means one mm in one minute of time. so you are specifying some linear motion in terms of time. ie. velocity.

further to say 35 mm/min means something moving 35 mm distance in one minute time.

so it can not be a flow measurement. generally flow should be measured in volumes/time

    eg. 25 cu meter/min

    45cc/sec etc.
