Do you think our forefathers would have been embarrassed by the gap between rich and poor? The U.S. is 3rd...?

Yes. I believe everyone should make their on way but sometimes people need a hand up not a hand. If I have the means, I don't mind helping someone out who is less fortunate than me. ><

There has ALWAYS been a gap or divide. Just use your search engine and look up Bacon's Rebellion or Shay's Rebellion. All that's changed is that folks like FDR planted a seed of government run slavery and entitlement.

Washington inherited 5,000 acres from his father. Does that impress you? Washington was able to grow that 5,000 into 220,000 acres and had a bank account to match! How far do you suppose he would have gotten had there been Democrats with all of their regulation schemes conspiring against him?

Not everyone in Washington's day was wealthy. Very little has changed.

"The democracy will cease to exist when you take from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not." Thomas Jefferson

"I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them." Thomas Jefferson

"Those who have money are far more free and have a greater in life from which to choose than do those who have little or none. Those who little or no money, are enslaved to their creditors." John Adams

No, they founded this country in the hopes that anyone could work for as much wealth as they could acquire without the government coming in and taking it away in taxes.

All of our forefathers were upper class, they would have been at the top of the gap in their day. Considering that many were slaverowners too, workers who didn't receive any pay, benefits or even freedom, they would not bat an eye at those statistics.

No. They really favored an even less intrusive government than we currently have. Odds are the gap would be even wider if that model was followed even if the poor actually had more money..

The gap isn't really the issue. The issue is how well are the poor doing. In the US, compared to most other countries, I'd say pretty well..

The founding fathers didn't intend or expect everybody to be equally wealthy. The intent was to create a country where everybody had the opportunity to do so.. which we have.

You need to get over your jealousy and look at what you have. I don't care if some rich bastard has a gold plated toilet and wipes his a$$ with million dollar a sheet toilet paper. It has no impact on my life.

Why is this gap the issue? Is it not someones right to go out and make a wonderful living? Why should the rich feel guilty for making a good life for themselves?

I think they would have been perplexed as to how someone receiving public assistance would be wearing the latest sneakers and have a large screen TV in their living room.

No our founding fathers in todays dollars would be multi millionaires. They were landed gentry with servants.
