Umm... do it at least once a day then more times a day... I went from mice to gerbil, then to guinea pigs so I mean start off at a moderate pace. Just be aware they too get scared not of just a new person but if high spots so be careful if it bites you... dont throw it ... yea i did, but it was back in his cage which the next time he knew not to bite but to hold on tight... lol We had a ruff relationship, but they all loved me... Just give your furry friend a day or so to adjust in the same room with you and talk to it... I'm sure itty bitty will want to reach out for some comfort. LOL! Mine did we all had problems... lol

It is better if you start to handle it when you first buy it as it will get used to your scent quicker. They love being handled anyway so you cant go wrong :)

I have found it is best ot give them two days or so to adjust to their new surroundings, and get more comfortable. keep feeding them, and talk to them, and if they approach the cage door while you are doing something let them smell you and get used to you. after the first coupla days, then feel free to hold them.
