There are many softwares to do just that, and many of them are commercial. I know some good commercial ones like Picassa, ACDsee photo manager, Adobe lightroom etc. I recommend ACDsee photo manager, I use it most of the time and found it to be easy to use and rich in features.

It's superb. You'll have to buy it to get rid of the giant eyeball, but it is so worth it.
