    the alternates are usually chosen specifically as alternates though they may or may not be told that they are alternates at the start

    # of ways = 22C12*10C2 = 29 099 070 ways

    [ you may note that 22C2*20C12 will give the same result ! ]

    Your questioning is optimal for the suggestions on a thank you to fill your 14 chairs. Are you inclusive of the branch via 12! to account for the numerous orders wherein the 12 that are chosen get referred to as? you in addition to mght would desire to divide the two alternates via 2! for the same reason.
