We read stories all the time about corrupted memory cards... part of this is caused by people who don't understand the nature of these devices.

Your memory card, to remain "healthy" and working properly, needs to be emptied after each shoot and then re-formatted in the camera.

It's not and won't function as a storage device.

Yes, you can. You can get a card-reader for your computer quite cheaply and simply copy the picture to the card. If you put it into the correct directory, and if it is the correct format (and size) for the camera, you may be able to view the picture using the camera's LCD.
