Why doesn't the United Nations move to another country? We've been supporting them for years!?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20091021/wl_nm/us_un_bu... The united Nations sits on prime real estate in New York city. They've been using our soldiers for "Peace Keeping missions for years. Why do we have to pay dues when we gave them the land and building to begin with? Evict them they're useless anyways. How much good does their Sanctions do? The bad guys do what they want anyways!

Update:

By the way Randy, I served in the US Navy for 21 years. Starting in Viet Nam through That little thing in Beirut and finishing up in the Great sand pit. I ride no horse, maybe you can reassimilate Quebec into the rest of Canada or are they still French? Beware of who you trade barbs with....

Who else would be dumb enough to pay 25% of the bill for a corrupt, useless organization that spends its time undermining the very things it is supposed to be safe guarding? How can the bad guys be stopped when the UN has China and Russia in top positions? Please, the UN should go back to the slaughterhouse that was there before the building was erected, it would be less offensive.

Hey Randy, America saved the world from Nazism, from Communism, and while we have made mistakes, we also have done more good than any other country on this planet. No one is more generous, and no country gives more. The UN is a joke, and the USA needs to start remembering that the interests of America are the interests of freedom, and the opinion of spineless, weak-willed Euro-trash is not worth the dignity it costs. Extinguish the lamp of American freedom and the world is in a terrible darkness. So take your UN and its 60+ years of useless money grubbing double talk and stick it. I live in NY, the UN is a drain between parking violations and traffic jams etc. We don't need these anti-American low-lifes coming here sucking off our tax dollars to work against what we stand for. Americans that understand the value of liberty, the importance of individualism and small government, people like Washington, Jefferson, and Franklin, they understand. Don't tread on us!

You give them prime real estate? I'm sure they pay something for it and even if they don't you just cannot buy the exposure to the international platform that having the UN HQ in your own backyard provides. In typical US fashion however you don't recognize the benifits and only consider "what's in it for us" on a superficial level.

Since you are concerned about lost rent money, let me ask you...just how much money is the US Govt paying for the land you guys use for your various Embassies around the world. Which, by the way, are normally the biggest ones. Its not like anyone charges you for that little perk?

And what is wrong with soldiers acting as Peace Keepers? Is it somehow benieth the dignity of your country? I've served on 3 peacekeeping missions thus far in my career with the Canadian military and they have, by far, been the most fufilling experiences of my life.

When one is considering sanctions one must also stop to consider how many of them the US has either veto'd or chosen to ignore over the years. Perhaps if less US companies chose to respect sanctions rather then filter money and supplies around sanctions through the use of third party countries and companies then they would be more effective.

You are right. The bad guys often do what they want. I'm just not so sure that the US isn't often the bad guy you are speaking about. Sure, your country does a lot of good in the world but you certainly are not the only ones doing good and you are certainly not perfect.

(Perhaps if your country paid what they owe to the UN, which by the way is an amount approved and voted on by your country as well, the UN would not be as ineffectual as you seem to think it is)

Source(s): You may find it easier to type if you climb down off of that high horse of yours for a while.
  • I'd welcome the UN to come to Canada any day!

I don't know what brought up the topic of Quebec, but it's where I live, and we're the only province in Canada where the only official language is French. It has positive and negatives, but it's important that we retain our heritage, culture and language.

I would never want to "assimilate" anything. Each region is unique and that's a good thing.

So you want to give up diplomacy and a massive international gathering being hosted on our soil?

You want us to have less importance in the world?

    Wow.
