What does it mean to describe an NL team as having an "American League type line-up?"?

small ball is more of a common type of play in the national league, bunting, moving runners over, its a different style of play. if you look at the stats, most years there are more total home runs in the al then the nl, if i remember correctly the phillies led the nl by a lot with well over 200 homeruns in the regular season; he is saying the phillies have more power than the average national league team, there is more to think about with the pitcher hitting in the nl also involving when you want to pinch hit for a pitcher or keep him in the game and so on

They are trying to get AL fans to follow their lame broadcast. Boy, were they boring. No emotion what so ever.

And yes, I woke up just in time to hear the comparision statement. What they are saying - is that the phillies lineup can match the Yankees or any AL team lineup .... which total BS.

At best, phillies lineup is comparable to Boston lineup if anything.

They dont have total coverage like the Yankees or the Halos - their is no weak spot in the lineup. The 7-9 hitter on these lineup, can be just as good if they move up on the order!

But at the moment, the halos lineup is not performing as expected and the yankees does!

So again, phillies lineup will be crumble when the AL roll into town!

Those announcers were not watching my A's this year if they think all A.L. teams have a great offense, but I think it is pretty much self explanatory. The Phils play an A.L. style, their lineup is stacked, they don't necessarily play station to station baseball, they draw walks, looking for 3-run homers. Personnel is defintely influenced by leagues and the type of ball park they play in. The Phils play in a home run park and they've built their team accordingly. You got to figure a team with a pitcher hitting is almost like an automatic out, in the A.L. not only is the pitcher not hitting but generally the Dh is expected to be one of the best hitters on the team, so a minus becomes plus and affects the game drastically. You notice the Phillies are working counts, getting guys on base, looking for big hits, not giving out away using bunts and stealing bases, somethings teams with lesser offenses try to do.

it means that the phillies have really good hitting. normally in the NL the teams arent as good offensively as in the AL, but the phillies' line up is good enough to hit with an AL team like the yankees
