Going to Japan, have a few questions about cash, shopping, sightseeing?

I'm going to Japan next week for 11 days. I'll be taking 200,000 Yen. Few questions..

1) Is this enough for a 11 days? I'll be in a hostel in Osaka the first 4 days and hosted with a Japanese family in Tokyo the next.

2) Can I bring Euro travellers cheques to Japan and change them at the airport? Or should I change them to Yen before going there?

3) Where can I find reasonably priced no named clothes? And are there any other "must sees" in Osaka/Tokyo?

I'll answer the must sees since the others seem to be covered :P

Well... I didn't rate Osaka much. Theres Osaka castle. But Osaka is very near to Kyoto, which has some amazing things to see, so if you can get there (its fairly cheap) then you should go for it!

Theres tonnnnnneeesss of cool places in Tokyo.

Big shopping districts like Shinjuku and Shibuya. Shibuya especially looks fantastic at night.

Harajuku if you want to see some crazy fashions :D and also check out Meiji Jingu shrine there.

Yoyogi Park, Imperial Palace, Tokyo Tower (Minato-ku)

Also you should go to the neighbouring city of Yokohama and check out Minato Mirai, it looks great at night :)

1: as long as you are thrifty you can probably make it on that.

2: better conversion rate at the airport in Narita usually.

3: that depends on your size.. the average Japanes e is a tad smaller than a Western National so it can be extremely hard to find stuff that fits.

make sure you hit the Shrines. Especially Yasukuni Shrine. don't get caught up in the hype/political hoopla. its a BEAUTIFUL memorial to their War dead( much like America's Arlington National Cemetery) Also EVERYTHING in Ueno park is worth a look see, especially the Japanese History Museums. Rodin's 'Gates of Hell" outside the Museum of Western Art is my favorite.

    1) It depends on how much travelling you'll be doing and what kind of things.. but for 11 days 200,000 yen sounds like it should be enough.

    2) I've known several friends and several family members who've had bad experiences with travellers cheques in Japan. You can't just walk into any bank and exchange them, only some banks/branches do them.. and then only at certain times/days. I didn't have a problem but I think I got lucky with a bank close to where I was staying. It's the same story with changing money, although it should be easier around tourist areas. I've found the best way is to just use your bank's debit card to get money out of the cash machines.. you don't get a bad rate, not as good as travellers cheques but not too bad. Try and avoid changing much money at the airport cos the rates are not so good.

    3) I like Uni Qlo for choice, quality and price. There are cheaper places but it's pretty good I think.

The sukiji fish market in Tokyo is very interesting to visit.
