What is the difference between fuera de and afuera de (Spanish)?

There's a subtle difference. In general, afuera, shows direction.

Ve afuera. = Go outside.

Vive en las afueras de la ciudad. = He lives in the outskirts of the city.

You need 'fuera' in your sentence if you want to say 'outside' the house, but a balcony is attached to the building so it'd be incorrect.

You'd have to say

Hay un balcon en la casa.

Afuera is outside and fuera can mean get out or like si yo fuera un insecto (if I were a bug) but I'm not so that's another way u can use fuera it doesn't make a difference which country Mexican whatever.

fuera = out, afuera = outside

If you say me; " Hay un balcon fuera de la sala " im pretty sure i cannot understand you. even if you say " Hay un balcon afuera de la sala" cause I cannot relate the idea of a Balcon outside of a living room, normally a Balcon is must external part of the living room like this pic:

So, in order I can understand you should say: Hay un balcon " en la parte " de afuera de la sala.

However if you just say me Hay un balcon afuera de la sala, i should have to think again to undersand what do you want to tell me, or ask for explanation.

Fuera de: its for places and things so farway.

Afuera: its for nearly far.

En la parte de afuera : more nearly to you

so here mexico we use fuera to order

fuera de mi casa

get out from my house but if u say afuera de mi casa you´re indicatin anithing is outside

so fuera it like get out

and afuera to indicate that anything is out from you are,

if im in a house and i wanna say the car is outside

we say

el carro esta afuera

but if we say

el carro esta fuera we understand but its weird for us

afuera means exterior, like outdoors

fuera is more like outside of something

and as for you sentence, Afuera seems more aproppriate
