How would you convey get well wishes in Spanish?
How would you translate into Spanish the following:
"Dear ... (name),
I'm sorry to hear that you are going thru a difficult time right now. I am thinking of you and I'm hoping for your full and speedy recovery. Get well soon.
Love,"
Do you know any other phrases that are used in Spanish get-well messages?
Thank you in advance.

14 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoIn Spanish, when is it appropriate to use ser vs. estar with lejos/cerca de aqui?
I thought that to specify distance "estar" should be used, however I've heard (on VocabuLearn CDs) the expressions "es lejos" and "es cerca de aqui". I'm a little confused now. If anybody could clarify this for me, I'd appreciate it.
Thank you.
3 AnswersLanguages1 decade agoIs this Spanish translation correct?
Last Saturday I picked them up at the airport.
El sabado pasado los recogi al aeropuerto.
I'm not sure if a direct or indirect pronoun is supposed to be used with recoger for "them".
Thank you for any corrections or comments.
3 AnswersLanguages1 decade agoHace que vs hace ...(Spanish)?
To say "I had a flu two weeks ago" is it correct to say:
a) Hace dos semanas tuve una gripe.
or
b) Hace does semanas que tuve una gripe.
I'm familiar with the hace que/desde hace with the present tense, but not sure how to use it with preterite.
Thank you.
4 AnswersLanguages1 decade agoWhat is the proper way to say in Spanish ....?
that a book by a certain author has a certain title?
I'm thinking the following:
... el ultimo libro de Dan Brown titulado "El Simbolo Perdido" ...
... el ultimo libro de Dan Brown que es titulado "El Simbolo Perdido" ...
... el ultimo libro de Dan Brown con el titulo de "El Simbolo Perdido" ....
... leo "El Simbolo Perdido" que es el ultimo libro de Dan Brown ...
Are these correct ways to express the title of the book and who the author is? What would be some other way to say the same thing?
Thank you.
P.S. Don't mind the spelling, I don't know how to do accent marks yet on the computer.

It is a generalization of course, based on personal observation.

6 AnswersOther - Society & Culture1 decade agoQuestion about gritar (Spanish)?
Is the following a correct translation of "I don't like people who scream/yell"?
No me gustan las personas que gritan.
The reason I'm wondering is that I've seen the following sentence: "Por que las personas se gritan cuando estan enojadas?" and I'm a little confused about the use of "se" in this sentence - to the best of my knowledge gritar is not a reflexive verb. Would "No me gustan las personas que se gritan" be a better translation?
Thank you.
6 AnswersLanguages1 decade agoWhat is the difference between fuera de and afuera de (Spanish)?
I know both mean "outside" but I'm wondering if they are interchangeable or if there's some difference in meaning or application.
Also, would it be correct to say:
Hay un balcon fuera de la sala.
(I want to say: "There's a balcony outside the living room".)
Would "afuera de la sala" be better?
Thank you.
6 AnswersLanguages1 decade agoWhat is the proper way to say the following in Spanish?

or perhaps
Ando a la escuela (a la tienda, etc.).
The question is about the "en" vs "a" with "andar".
Thank you.
7 AnswersLanguages1 decade agoMuslims, in light of the conviction that ...?
Christians and Jews have changed the word of god, what gives you the assurance or a guarantee that Mohammad wasn't the one who altered that word? After all, Christians and Jews are equally convinced that theirs is the right book. Or, since it's pretty much the same god the three of you worship, would it mean that your god makes mistakes or can't make up his mind and thus changes his "revelations" from time to time?
7 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoDo you believe in the accuracy of the Bible?
If so, then please explain to me where did the light come from in the first 3 days of creation - according to Genesis, God said "let there be light" on the first day (and apparently that happened according to the book) and yet he didn't create the stars until day 4 (FYI, in case of any doubt, the Sun is a star).
14 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhat would be a good substitute for strength training?
I absolutely HATE to lift weights. As a result, most of my workouts in the gym consist of cardio, which I love. I do understand however the benefits of strength training and would like to add that component to my workouts. I'm just wondering, is there anything that would be a good substitute for lifting weights? Maybe something that uses the body weight instead? Would, for example yoga or pilates be ok?
