Hace que vs hace ...(Spanish)?

To say "I had a flu two weeks ago" is it correct to say:

a) Hace dos semanas tuve una gripe.

or

b) Hace does semanas que tuve una gripe.

I'm familiar with the hace que/desde hace with the present tense, but not sure how to use it with preterite.

Thank you.

  • To say you had the flu you would use tener..

Dos semanas pasadas, "tuve" una gripe

I'd go for: 'Hace dos semanas tenía la gripe'.
