Does it matter how big a sub box is?
I'm getting a rockford fosgate 12" sub and am looking at boxes- is it better to have a box with more volume or less? the min for the sub is .7 cu. feet and the max is 1.8 cu. feet. if its too big do i just fill the rest of it with polyfill or something? i know nothing about this, so any help is appreciated- thanks

Smaller boxes will increase the subs power handling--- at the expense of low bass output and efficiency.
Bigger boxes have great low end output and are generally "flatter" sounding for best sound quality, but you lose some upper end extension and power handling.
I would say you will like 1-1.25 cubic feet.
Polyfill is for when the box is too small, not too big.

If you go for a tighter enclosure, the sound will be tighter, notes hit with a more defined "thump", larger boxes give you a louder but more dragged out "thump" best thing to do is try to find a box that comes close to the recommended enclosure size, but if you cant get exact, as long as your within the limits its ok.
