Buying a first time horse...?

I have a horse in mind that is free and i want to so to speak, "buy" him. but my parents say that i have to have a full year's board expense set aside before i get any horse. I can board him at my friend barn for about $200 per month, so a year of that would cost about $2,400. i have about 2/3 of that total cost in the bank right now.

I have a job at my school grading, and get an average of $150 per month. can any one give me any advice as to how i can convince my parents to let me get him now? or just ANYTHING i could do to get him sooner. this is a really great horse and i don't want to wait to long in case someone else is interested in this horse and gets to him before me.

Any help will be appreciated!! thanks

    Looks like you need $800

Questions- hey they might be obvious but you never know.

do your parents expect you to pay for everything your horsey will need? because with vet bills, feed, and other stuff you most likely will need help. basically i could type all of those obvious (and to some not so obvious.. YIKES!) questions, but hey look on any horse question on YA and you will see the normal, can you afford it, do you know what your doing questions, im pretty sure you will get at least one. (i think, and hope this is obvious! haha i bet it is!)

-explain your problem to them, i bet they will relate in some way.

-try not to be pushy, obvious, but i find that if you have one long focused conversation on the topic is better than a lot of nagging.

Option 1- convince them your good for it.

well how long has it taken you to get that much money? because id you got $1,600? because if it didnt take that long (a couple of months) then you could tell your parents that 1. you dont want the horse to be "sold" before you can get him, and 2. you can get them the money, and will get the money. This way you get the horse sooner, so no one will take him. My parents might question is once i get the horse i'll get lazy, not have enough time, or want to spend all of my time with my horse instead of working, if that sounds like a problem you will encounter tell your parents about the ties you missed parties, hanging out with friends, etc for work, remind them that you are responsible.

Tell your parents that this is a lot of money your raising and that maybe they could pay 1/3 of it? what i do is first ask for my parents to pay for 1/2 of something then i would go down from that, maybe 1/4 or something.

-Get another job, and show your parents the combined income you make will let them get $800 in a exactly 5 month, (or whenever you will get the money) and say hey this horse is a very rare opportunity! we could be trying to buy a horse!

Option 2- Money from non parents

if convincing your parents that your good for the money doesn't work, ask to borrow money for friends, if its appropriate. i have no idea how old you are, (hence the over explaining.. and the obvious questions, sorry!) so maybe some sort of loan from one friend.

-Christmas is coming up!-ask for money! and with above with option 1, you can say "Hey Parents! i am almost/im positive/im going to.. have the money after christmas because all i asked for it money, so could you front me the money, and then i'll pay you back.

    2. or say hey give me $800 for christmas, NOW!!! haha not!

HOPE I HELPED! sorta the same thing happened to me involving lessons!

Your parents are right by saying that essentially you need to have an emergency account just in case.

Are you overly eager because this horse is "free?"

Use the term "free" very lightly... is there something wrong with this horse? I would have a pre purchase exam done to make sure there isn't a huge underlying issue that will cost you a fortune in vet/natural health care costs. What do you own for equipment? Do you have a trainer or experienced horse person that will coach you?

Horses are expensive but you're starting a bad habit of buying something that costs more to keep than what you make per month. Even though you'll have a year worth of boarding saved up, you'll have to go into your savings account by $50/month just to afford board. You may have to consider working at your friends barn to work off part of your board so you aren't losing money on this animal.

You'll be cutting into a lot of your free time by just attempting to support this animal by rather than enjoying it.

This really isn't the answer that you are looking for but I would look at this from a different perspective.

there's no longer something incorrect with discovering first. besides the undeniable fact that, there is likewise no longer something incorrect with discovering by skill of having a horse. I rigidity that it ought to be a stable calm horse with out vices or behavioral matters. Then the owner would be waiting to verify issues and learn issues they in any different case would not from taking instructions. they might not discover out how plenty a horse expenses to maintain or approximately getting their ft achieved, etc. it is likewise significant that the owner be open to discovering and not say "it quite is my horse, i'm going to do what i want." it quite is a foul techniques-set no count the area. the owner shouldn't take each little thing they hear as actuality the two. they might desire to verify if it sounds like stable suggestion and if an identical element is coming from numerous sources. it quite is possibly then stable suggestion. particularly some those people who positioned down on people who're new interior the pony international have the two grown up around horses or have been around them for years. they don't understand the sensation of loving horses and not being waiting to be around them continuously. attempt to think of in case you may desire to no longer pass around any horses for a protracted time. I had to do it final twelve months for greater or less six months and it approximately killed me. they only want in on the exhilaration. they might desire to take some instructions, be around some horses, do a sprint diagnosis, and inspect the fee and not undemanding artwork of possessing a horse formerly they purchase one however. they might discover they like the belief of possessing a horse better than easily possessing one. ; )
