I just applied to adopt a dog from the shelter & they want my driver license # , what will they do with it?

    Here, the shelter runs a background check on all potential adopters for any animal related crimes.

    They want to know where the dog goes, and what kind of person is adopting the dog.

    They will check to make sure you are really who you say.

    There are people who adopt a dog only to take it to a lab and sell it for experimentation and no rescue or shelter wants that for their dogs. Some rescues do home visits,

    It is a form of ID. They can check some of your history to make sure you don't have a criminal history that would make it dangerous to adopt a dog to you.

  • they probably just want to keep a record of where the dogs go and it is safer than asking for a SS#

    I think it's just to have on file in case you don't get your dog fixed, or if they need to contact you.

    it's proper identification, you know? Just for safety purposes.

    they may use it to double check the address you put down on the application to make sure it's the same as is registered with DMV.
