18 month old with a lazy eye?

We recently noticed that our 18 month old daughter left eye is kicked in. I know the doctor needs to look at this, and that they will need to do something to correct it. When I was a child, I wore glasses from 2nd grade through 5th grade because I had a lazy eye, and my 6 year old son is wearing glasses for a lazy eye. My question is not what is wrong with her eye, but what methods they will use to try and correct it in a child this young. I plan to call her doctor tomorrow to set up an appointment. Have any of you gone through this with your under 2 child? What did they use? If they use glasses, how can they tell what lenses she will be able to see out of, when she can't tell them? Thanks!

Go to an ophthalmologist as soon as possible. If you live near a pediatric ophthalmogist this would be even better. A pediatric ophthalmologist will have their whole exam room set up to deal with kids and will be the best person to deal with a child that young. The ophthalmologist will need to make sure that there is not a special underlying cause for the lazy eye, also known as amblyopia. Lazy eye does tend to run in families. The most common treatments are patching (think pirate) and glasses. Treating at this young of an age can really make a difference.

I was lazy eyed / (cross eyed type) when i was young (around your daughter's age)according to photos and mom's comments. i didn't remember wearing classes but i eventually grew out of it. Speak with a pediatrician and see. I think its one of those things you grow out of. Unless you need vision corrections such as the degrees of your eyes are off, then you should wear glasses. Lazy eye is just that the pupil isn't looking directly ahead. As stated before. Pediatrician first, after diagnosis then ask this question.

  • There are some pictures of me when i was a young child, before a was dropped on my head, and throughout an entire 4 month period i was completely cross-eyed. Then my sister dropped me on my head on a concrete floor, which concussed me. no more cross-eyes but I seriously dont think it affect me, i'm okay now.
