How can I clean up my email address from all the junk and spam mail?
I have an email address that I have used for several years. I quit using it because I get over 500 junk and spam emails a day. Does anyone know how I can clean it up and stop all this unwanted spam so I can use it again?

You can not completely stop all spam, but you can help to put a big dent in it.
First, try not to open any of them, that only makes them send more and more to you.
Check mark them and click on 'Spam,' this should stop those addresses from being delivered to your inbox.
Use your spam guard and block address.
Look for the 'Options' link at upper right corner of mail screen and click on it
Options /mail options
Click on 'spam' in the list on the left.
Make sure spam guard is on, by checking in the little box.
Then in 'Blocked Email Addresses,' enter the E-mail address you wish blocked, in the box after 'Add a blocked address' and click on the 'add' button, then click on save changes at top left of screen.
You will never get mail from that address again.
This should help you to control your spam.
Other tips:
Never open E-mail unless you are absolutely sure who it is from.
Never give out your personal information to anyone.
If you are on a site and you absolutely have to sign up for something, check the entire page to make sure you uncheck any lines wanting to send you any other info, notices, catalogs, ads, and the like.
Added detail:
Yes, spammers change one item in their addresses a lot, so you might try blocking the entire domain, by putting in
*@ thedomainyouwanttoblock.com
for instance: *@seeyou.com
Or, if they change the domain, instead of the company name you can block the name by putting in Imatheft_inc@*
Hope this helps.

The most effective way is to change your e-mail address and give it out only to trusted friends. As for those how send you spam, open a new address on yahoo and use it to correspond with them. Yahoo has the best spam filters around. However, you will need to do a little work with the Yahoo filters ... Any time you get a spam from a spammer friend report it to yahoo by clicking the spam button and I guarantee you that in a couple of weeks the spammer friends of yours will all be in the Yahoo black list of spammers. And therefore, you will see no more spam from them. Another thing you can do over and above of what I recommend is to buy the Norton Internet security 2007 and install it in your computer after uninstalling the one you have now. Do it!

You probably can't. You mad the mistake of registering with a few of the wrong web sites and now your e-mail addy is being shared all over the planet. Stop using that e-mail. Check it once every couple of weeks to keep it active. Maybe things will slow down in a few months.
Create a new address and make sure that only your closest friends or relatives have it. Don't register ANYWHERE for ANYTHING. Now you will be like the rest of us, with one junk mail address and one address that we use.

1. Change your password!!!!!! While at it, also update your security questions and make your secondary email contact other than Yahoo-> use Google's gmail. When you change your password, Yahoo re-encrypts your session cookie based off that new password. Since the hackers still have your old cookie and with your password not changed, they still can send out emails without you knowing. 2. Do not click on emails that you do not know or go to websites that have these scripts that will steal your current cookies to access your accounts. How do you know if they have these scripts? You don't. That's why you don't open them. If you do click on them, you will need to change your password again. 3. Do a virus scan just in case but most likely they will NOT show up since it is NOT a worm/virus for your case. But, do a scan just in case to eliminate that possibility. 4. You can try to contact Yahoo, but like many have said, they won't do anything. 5. Always log out of your email when finished and never click on "Keep me logged in" check box to clear out the cookie 6. Make it a habit to CLEAN out your web browser cookies, since ANY site can have these security exploits without you knowing!!!!! 7. Export your contact list as a backup since some hackers are getting bolder and will delete all of them. I did all these steps above and the emails have stop going out. To Yahoo engineers/staff reading this: You should consider encrypting the current IP address within the cookie to ensure that whoever is using it, IS AT the current IP address and if not have the person re-log in with their ID and password to gain access.

Your email provider should have a spam filter. Make sure it is enabled, and click all junk and spam as spam, and it should go to spam folder from then on. Just delete the spam every few days, or if it is yahoo, spam is auto-deleted every week.
I clear my spam folder daily, because I check it beforehand to see if non-spam email has gotten there accidentally.
