Did environmentalists cause global warming?

The movie, "The China Syndrome" and the irrational fear of accidents was pushed by the same sorts of people that push an irrational fear of warming. We do have them to thank for not having more viable alternatives. Ambulance chasing lawyers as well as green lawyers made it virtually impossible to construct any new nuclear power plants. They also made it virtually impossible to construct other power plants, whether they be hydroelectric, wind, or natural gas.

JimZ is at least partially right in citing China Syndrom. However, whether or not the fear was too extreme it was not irrational. Three Mile Island and Chernobyl were very real events. Currently, nuclear power has gained many advocates because it is usually clean, but there is not any community is the U.S. campaigning for a plant nearby. Lots of people want the power, just as long as they don't have to live near the plant. I'm waiting for any group of mothers advocating for a plant near their children's school. The power industry would have to do a far better job than they have before in explaining how the plants would be safe now, and how the waste can be safely discarded. The benefits remain, but have the risks been addressed? Can a community be convinced a plant will remain safe even during an earthquake or hurricane? There are other energy sources available.

If you wish to blame someone, you should probably blame the Russian nuclear industry rather than American environmentalists.

Environmentalists protested nuclear energy for a decade to no effect, what stopped the U.S. nuclear energy, Three Mile Island had more to do with that and then Chernobyl. It is not irrational to fear something that is extremely dangerous more recently several accidents in Japanese reactors have reinforced the fact of what could happen if a reactor has a major problem. The fact is the more reactors there are the greater the chance of an accident.

No. Human caused global warming is hooey. That doesn't mean that most of what they do ends up being counter-productive.
