Good or bad that the Concorde is out of service?

Is it just me, or was it the biggest mistake/setback the airline industry has ever made by taking the Concorde out of service?

Update:

I am not talking about the cost to fly in it or how much fuel it used. I am talking about the capability to fly passengers at supersonic speeds. And cross the Atlantic in an extremely short amount of time. The only advances the airline industry has made is what? The A380 What is so special about that? Just because more people can fly on it? Wait until one of those crashes. It will be the biggest loss of human life on a single aircraft.

I think the Concorde is an amzing aircraft that just came out at the wrong time - The executives that could actually afford to buy a ticket on it probably have their own, or company owned, Learjet or Citation or some other personal jet - Plus, nowadays we have internet and webcams where professionals can do business online and never even have meet face to face in some other country - It can all be done in a virtual boardroom - A supersonic passenger aircraft just isnt fesible like it once was, sadly - Until an economical way presents itself for the return of the supersonic commercial airliner, I don't see it or any other coming back in the near future - You do make an excellent point about the A380, however, the advancments made in the industry with the Airbus models shouldnt be downplayed - They have a great safety record and are a delight to be a passenger in - A lot of the advancments made are still industry secrets, so its hard to be critical about the unknown - The Concorde will always be a staple and an example of what once was - I think it is better to be remembered as a legend

Well, you make some good points, Kevin. No doubt about it, commercial supersonic technology has definitely taken 2 steps backward.....but, just like nature, you can't deny economics....that crash came at a most inopportune time in the development of next generation aircraft......high cost/low yield (i.e the Concorde) in the face of a world wide recession will lose every time......now, whether or not it is the "biggest mistake/setback the industry has ever made" only time will tell....I think the major manufacturers can get back up to speed pretty quick....although commercial supersonic flight has ground to a halt, there is still much spill-over of the military applications of the art that, in the future, can be applied to another new-generation SST.....I personally think, $100 round-trip airfares from New York to Miami on a flying Greyhound aside, Airline Deregulation is the biggest mistake the industry has ever made.......low airfares and efficient operation during ABNORMAL traffic, weather and mechanical problems are NOT compatible!

There are 2 important motives and a 0.33 yet important reason. a million basically a small variety of airframes and aspects have been made and no "production run" became into ever envisaged to make an entire "Fleet" of them. So the marketplace for the plane became into small and the form expenditures could desire to no longer be born onto the only good shopper. such that to make a airplane could fee over 2 hundred cases greater suitable than it may sell for. 2 It became into on no account more suitable. The plane became into cutting-edge whilst it became into first drawn, and previous the scope of many designers imaginations. yet tit became into no longer long beforehand this became into no longer the case. advancements is the two commercial and militia air industry quickly outstripped that of BAE. Goverment investment became into lessened and the venture became into no longer manageable. 3 throughout the time of the 2d worldwide war British government desperate it wasn't going to be left in the back of sooner or later palms race what ever it fee. so because of the fact the chilly war more suitable and the race for weapons spiraled ever upwards strategies of transport mandatory to be rapid and effective. the U.S. and US have been given the rocketeers, which they started out to advance. the united kingdom did no longer and we regarded at a ability of transport that shall we gain from the united kingdom. Strategic strike rigidity plane have been more suitable, The Victor and The Vulcan being the two greatest and able to sporting the then available nuclear deterant. the two wer extremely super cumbersome and gradual, however the Vulcan had a low point capacity which became into unsurpassed and the Victor had a intense altitude selection ability, What became into mandatory became right into a mix of the two. A slender airframe with a intense velocity ability and wonderful selection able to sporting a nuclear deterent. The upshot became into Concorde. did no longer you ever ask your self why the physique became into so slender the airplane see you later and the undercarriage so some distance aside and that it did no longer resemble any commercial airplane ever outfitted beforehand or after!!!! The physique length is to comprise the BLUE steel missile And the gap between the undercarriage is to take the wing span of the missile. It became into additionally designed to comprise unfastened fall bombs probable like Yellow solar and WE177.

The A380 is turning into a bust as well....they dont have enough orders for the aircraft as of yet to make the project profitable....The 787 Dreamliner however is a technologically advanced and far superior aircraft...although it has been delayed for several years...it already has enough orders to make the plane profitable once it is finally unveiled in early 2010......The Concorde was a beautiful and advanced airplane, but it just wasnt profitable....

Source(s): maybe im a little bias about Boeing....i am an American, and a share holder....but anyway thats how I feel....

When was the last time you used it?

    Seriously.

If you never have, then what are you whining about?

Or, if you did, then is normal flight just so much of an inconvenience that it needs to be brought back?

These are serious questions. I want to know how you can justify the HUGE cost to fly by Concorde, when there is plenty of other ways to travel.

Nevermind that it's been out of service for 6 years....a bit late to raise the complaint, don't you think?
