Open office V Microsoft office.....?

Question

I am doing a wee computer course in work which uses Microsoft Office. When I continue to study at home, I have Open Office. I have made many documents which will not print using Microsoft, when I try printing them from my USB stick.. Basically, if I create a document at home using Open Office, it will print fine on my own printer,but documents that I have created at work using Microsoft Office, just come out as jargon.. Is there any programme to convert the files or will I just have to crumble and pay all sorts of funny money to buy Microsoft Office???

You can use open office to save as a .doc file, which can be read by microsoft word.  Just choose .doc or word 2003 in the save as dialog box

What version of MS Office and Open office are you using?

If you've got Office 2007 at work and Open Office 2.x you'll have issues.  You can upgrade to Open Office version 3 to have much better compatibility.

Another thing you can try is using Google Docs.  I've had great luck copy/pasting from them into Open Office when I'm in a bind.

yup...you have to export you're OOo document files to Office doc files.. 

in OOo click>> save as>> file extension>>windos, doc

note also not all features are readable in one format to another, so even though you export the document it still wont be mirrored in one word office app to another..  spacing, fronts, characters, headers etc..
