Windows 7 aero and GeForce 8600GT?
I want to go from XP to Windows 7 and I'm especially interested in running the Aero interface. The w7 advisor says my video card will not support aero, but doesn't really say why.
The card supports the hardware requirements so I think the problem may be here:
"Aero also requires a DirectX 9 class graphics processor that supports a Windows Display Driver Model Driver, Pixel Shader 2.0 in hardware, and 32 bits per pixel."
My card supports DirectX 10 but I don't know about the other two things.

It'll support Aero, it's just Microsoft's software that's f*cked up.

Your graphics card will support Windows 7 as long as it has enough video memory. I think it requires 256MB or more of video memory. I'll put it this way, it works great on my 7900 GS with 256MB of video memory. The 7900 GS is a DirectX 9 card.
In source I've placed a link to the hardware compatibility list. Cards very similar to yours are there.

I don't see why your card won't run Aero. It has DX 10, Pixel Shader 4.0.
The compatibility center says your card is good

The only thing I see is there is no Windows 7 driver for it. But the Vista driver should work fine. The only way to see is to try it. If it won't work you have to buy a new card anyway.

it sounds like you are using the drivers from the windows update.
go to www.nvidia.com and get the actually updated drivers for the video card.
As for direct x 10 go to google.com and search for DirectX 10 and it should automatically take you to the update site.

Ya its worth a buy...its very similar to the 9600Gt which is also good for playing games on medium settings.
