Photoshop saving images as "file"?

I just got a new version of Photoshop CS4. The Save For Web function has been working fine so far, but today when I was trying to save a graphic as a .PNG, it repeatedly saved it as a "file" instead. When I tried to save the original .PSD, this also became a "file." Now neither of them is openable by PS or anything else. Weird. Any ideas?

Do you mean that is saves it as a file with no extension? Then try typing the format after the filename separated by a dot as in "document.psd" or "document.png" where document is the name for the file that you chose and the letters after the dot are the format. If that doesn't work you should consider pre-installing the software.

The program has become corrupted. Run full scans with your anti/spy/malware programs, then re-install CS4.
