  • Is it ever appropriate to list future positions on a resume?

    I'm applying for an internship.

I'm currently working at a student publication, but I'll be running it next semester, which I feel speaks to my leadership abilities and the quality of work I did there. Is there any way to mention my upcoming promotion tactfully, or is it something I need to leave off all together?

Thanks for any advice! I don't have a lot of experience with this.

  • Photoshop saving images as "file"?

I just got a new version of Photoshop CS4. The Save For Web function has been working fine so far, but today when I was trying to save a graphic as a .PNG, it repeatedly saved it as a "file" instead. When I tried to save the original .PSD, this also became a "file." Now neither of them is openable by PS or anything else. Weird. Any ideas?

  • How do I upload photos from a Canon Powershot without software?

Hi - I'm borrowing a Canon PowerShot camera and using it with a library PC (Dell). I have the USB cable plugged into both ends. I get the popup informing me that new hardware has been installed, and the Device Manager shows the camera as working correctly, but I can't find any way to access the photos, and the camera doesn't appear under My Computer. Any suggestions?

  • Particularly easy who vs. whom question?

I'm generally pretty good at grammar, but because I learned it somewhat instinctively, I never really got the hang of cases, or who vs. whom.

So...take the sentence "A man who(m) police believe has been responsible for..."

Who or whom, and why? This isn't homework help, I'm genuinely looking to understand the principle. Thanks so much!

  • Quick and easy Spanish grammar question...?

I know that "Whose are they?" is "De quienes son?"

If I wanted to say "Whose pencils are they?" do I drop the son when introducing the noun?

That is, would it be "De quienes son los lapices?" or just "De quienes los lapices?"

Probably a ridiculous question, but I'm just starting out and I'm terrible at foreign languages. Thanks for any help!

  • Would it be possible to feel a magnitude 1.4 earthquake about 26 miles away?

I live on the third floor of my building - a while ago, I thought I felt shaking. When I looked it up, I found that there had been a magnitude 1.4 earthquake about 26 miles away, but that seems really small for it to have affected me. Was it just a coincidence, or could I have actually felt it?

  • How do I stop sabotaging myself?

So, this is going to be a bit emo, but bear with me...

I am consistently handed amazing opportunities in life, which I then consistently destroy or ignore.

Most of this takes the form of my not doing things.

I'm getting an A in a class, and then I don't turn in the final paper (thus failing).

I have a personal connection, but then I don't apply for an internship by the deadline.

Most recently, I got a very great campus job, then dropped out of touch with everyone in the workplace over winter break. I was home, stressed out, and had minimal phone or Internet access, and I just gave up. Then I was too freaked out to check my email or phone to see what I had missed, until tonight, when I found an ultimatum to reply by this morning. I'm still not sure if I'm fired.

This is starting to become a thing with me. By any outside standards I'm doing pretty well at life, but I know I could be doing a hundred times better if I'd just get out of my own way.

I'm not sure if it's procrastination, perfectionism, laziness, aloofness, or if I just secretly hate myself.

    Why am I doing this?

    How do I stop it?

  • What are you doing on Election Day?

So... no matter whether you're a Democrat, a Republican, an independent, a third-party supporter, or still pulling for Ron Paul, Election Day is almost here.

What will you be doing Nov. 4? GOTV efforts? Glued to your TV or obsessively reading political blogs? Having a party? Praying your candidate wins?

Have you already voted, or will you be doing so that day? Where are you voting? Are you taking the day off? Do you expect long lines?

So, basically, yeah - what are you going to be doing for Election Day? Feel free to throw in your predictions for what you think will happen.

  • How to respectfully interview grieving parents and friends?

Hope someone can help me with this -

I'm a journalist in college, and I just got asked to write my first obituary. Obviously, I'm going to have to talk to the deceased student's friends and family.

How should I go about this? I really want to be as delicate as possible and avoid hurting people more, but I don't even know what to say. What sort of questions should I ask or avoid?

Thanks so much for any input you may have.

    I'll choose a best answer.

  • Limited access with Linksys router?

I'm sort of a non-techie, so not sure if I'm providing all the information necessary or in the right form, but I'll do my best.

I have two computers at home on one router (a Linksys Wireless-G). Initially, when I connect the router and modem to one computer, the other one will be able to receive a wireless signal. However, some time later (usually after several hours) the computer on wireless will only be able to receive "limited access" or none to the network. If I restart the computer, it is then able to receive full wireless again. This happens no matter which computer is connected to the router and which is receiving wireless.

Both of our computers are running Windows Vista, and the network is unsecured.

Any advice would be very, very much appreciated as this is really aggravating. I'll also provide any other information necessary.

    Thanks!

  • What are the lyrics to "Misadventures of the Campaign Kids" by King of Prussia?

I know this is a pretty long shot, as it's an obscure band, but I can't find the lyrics anywhere and I'd really like them.

If you have a better ear than I do, maybe you can listen and transcribe:

  • When you buy a remixed song, do the profits go to the original artist or the remixer?

If you buy song from iTunes or similar retailers, who does the money go to? Or is it a 50/50 split or something like that?

Not sure if anyone knows, but I thought I'd give it a shot.

Thanks in advance; I'll pick a best answer.

  • Know the answer to these logic problems?

I'm working on logic homework, and I'm stuck on a few questions. (I did most of them; I'm not just trying to get someone else to do my work for me.) If you know any of them, and could explain them to me, I'd be incredibly grateful. I'll pick a best answer!

    1. How many structures are possible for "not P and Q or R"?

    (The answer is 1-5)

    2. Given the following truth assignments:

    P - true

    Q - true

    R - false

Is "If P and R, then Q" true or false?

    3. Is P->((NOT P) -> Q) a contradiction, contraposition, or tautology?

    4. Which statement is logically true?

    - It is not the case that Sandy knows what happened yesterday, and neither does Mary. Therefore, according to De Morgan’s Law, Sandy or Mary knows what happened yesterday.

    - I know John likes basketball or Jerry likes football. Therefore, there is a chance that John likes basketball and Jerry likes football.

    5. From the perspective of propositional calculus, is the statement “If 2+5=7, then

  • Why did the Democratic caucus results come in more quickly than the GOP results?

When I was watching the coverage of the Iowa caucuses, I noticed that the percentage of districts reporting was much higher for Democrats than Republicans for much of the night, and that after the Democrats reached 100%, it took the Republicans a while to catch up.

I understand that the Democratic caucusing process is more involved than the Republican one, and thought that it was more time-consuming as well, so what would the explanation be for this discrepancy?

Thanks - I'll be sure to pick a best answer.

  • How can I stop myself from crying in stressful situations?

I have a horrible habit of bursting into tears when I'm either upset, frustrated, angry, or sad, especially when I'm trying to explain a point of view (e.g. argue a grade with a professor). Sometimes I'll just be tearing up; other times I'll sob uncontrollably. It's incredibly irritating, and I realize that it makes me look weak and unprofessional. Any tips on stopping?

    Thanks.

PS: Sorry about the iffy categorization of this one - I realize it doesn't exactly fit, but I couldn't think of anywhere else to put it.

  • Why do Ron Paul supporters insist he's being ignored by the media?

I've seen so many questions about Ron Paul's fund-raising being overlooked by the mainstream media. I typed "Ron Paul" into Google News:

    AP

Paul Raises Millions in 24-Hour Effort

    http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5hyQLduiFMFTNmeU...

    W. POST

"On Tea Party Anniversary, Ron Paul Raises Millions"

    http://blog.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2007/12/1...

    USA TODAY

"Ron Paul meets -- and exceeds -- 4Q fundraising goal two weeks early"

    http://blogs.usatoday.com/onpolitics/2007/12/ron-p...

    NY TIMES

    Reinventing the Revolution

    http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2007/12/16/rein...

    REUTERS

Ron Paul White House bid raises $4.5 million

    http://www.reuters.com/article/politicsNews/idUSN1...

All told, there are already 6863 hits for "Ron Paul," compared to 25 talking about the filibuster Chris Dodd is planning tomorrow against immunity for telecom companies. Seriously, I'm confused. How is this being ignored?

  • What is the difference between phonetics and phonemics?

  • USC Annenberg or UC Berkeley? (undergrad)?

So, it's May 1, and I am totally stuck. I'm a self-proclaimed nerd from Los Angeles. I want to major in political science and, if it's offered, print journalism.

    Berkeley:

Pros: Farther from home, nicer area, more overall prestigious, more intellectual, probably a better social scene for me

Cons: Huge classes, huge dorms, huge...everything, not much of a support system, no j-school and all that would provide

    USC:

Pros: Fantastic journalism school, nicer campus, smaller classes, more supportive atmosphere

Cons: Not as academically prestigious overall, sporty/preppy/party atmosphere would be somewhat wrong for me, not great neighborhood, much closer to home

I don't know which school's paper is better - I've read them both and like them equally, but any experience at what it's like to work at one or thoughts differentiating the two would be great. Yes, this is an important factor.

Costs would end up being about the same.

  • What is the process for becoming a delegate to the Democratic National Convention?

I'm a politically active high school senior who will be able to vote for the first time in 2008, and I would love to follow that up by attending the convention afterwards. I tried to look up the rules for getting nominated/elected as a delegate, but they seem fairly byzantine. I live in California - whom should I contact, and when should I begin that process? Any details or advice you might have would be extremely appreciated. Failing that, any other ways you can think that I could get to the convention would also be helpful (I plan to be on my college's paper - maybe I can cover it?)

Thanks in advance. I'll be sure to pick a best answer.

P.S: I hate to have to say this, but it seems to be de rigeur on here to attack the questioner, so...any answers talking about how corrupt and horrible politics in general or Democrats in particular are will be laughed at and then roundly ignored. Your cynicism is touching, but not particularly relevant.

  • Is the EFC number per year or for all four years?

I just got the results back from my FAFSA with an extremely high EFC ($70,000+). Is this what my family is expected to pay over all for years or just for one year? We are solidly middle-class, with only one working parent, and live in a very expensive city, so this seems awfully high. Any way to lower the number/appeal?

    Thank you so much.
