Without knowing what the BSOD codes or the "bunch of ****" was, I'm only guessing but try this first...
On start up (before Windows loads) keep tapping either F5 or F8 then use arrow keys to highlight 'Last known good configuration' click on a user account, enter the password (if you don't know it, there probably isn't one so leave it blank) and hit return/enter.
If that doesn't work, try again, but this time highlight 'Safe Mode' click on a user account, enter the password (if you don't know it, there probably isn't one so leave it blank) and hit enter/return.
A window will pop up asking if you want to carry on with safe mode or use system restore. Choose system restore.
If that doesn't work....
You might need to get hold of an install disk for your operating system (XP/Vista/Win 7) and boot with that (any one will do as long as it's the same version eg:Home/Pro/Basic/Premium etc.).
Note: To boot from your Windows CD, the BIOS settings on your computer must be configured to do this. On start up keep tapping either F2, F10, Esc, or Del, to enter the BIOS set-up. Look for "Drive configuration", "Boot order" or similar and make the CD/DVD drive the first boot device. Save settings and exit.
Start your computer from the Windows CD. To do this, insert the Windows CD into your CD drive or DVD drive, and then restart your computer.
When you see the "Press any key to boot from CD" message, press any key to start the computer from the Windows CD.
Click to select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD-ROM drive if you are prompted.
When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press 'R' to start the Recovery Console.
If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the installation that you want to access from the Recovery Console.
When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. If you don't know the administrator password, there probably isn't one so just press ENTER.
At the command prompt, type
chkdsk /r
(note the space between chkdsk and /r)
and press Return/Enter.
When the scan finishes, re-start.
If you still get problems after the scan's done, do the same steps again but this time type
sfc /scannow
(note the space between sfc and /scannow)
and press Return/Enter.
When the scan finishes, re-start.
If that fails do it again and type
fixmbr
and press Return/Enter.
When the scan finishes, re-start.

Yo chill out, you´ll get the info back. This happened to me last week. My computer crashed and I forced it off at the plug. The when I tried to turn it back on i just got a blue screen and an error message. It has something to do with not being able to recognise the hard drive.
I rang Dell, the company who´s computer I was working on and some guy form the help desk talked me through what to do. I had to wait whilst some checks were run and then bobs you uncle..it was all fine and came back on :-)
Now I can´t exactly tell you what to do as it involved several steps but i would suggest calling the help desk of the pc manufacturer and they will just talk you through the process. I believe you will need to give them your IP address though.
but it doesn´t mean your going to lose everything so chill.
Good luck!

Is your computer freezing or crashing or getting the blue screen error?
We all know how annoying this can be.
Especially when you're in the middle of a project and lose hours worth of work because you computer froze up.
Here are a few tips you can use to stop your computer from freezing up or getting the blue screen of death.
Unless you have a hardware problem,
like a hard drive going bad or a video card driver problem the reason you're computer is freezing or crashing is because of registry errors.
95% of the time this is biggest cause of freezes and other general problems like slow start up,
slow shutdowns, blue screen error, freezing, slow applications and a general lack of computer performance.

Try to boot in safe mode.
In safe mode there is no unnecessary program is loaded.
When you start your computer, press F8 to go to safe mode.
Run a tool called ErrorFix.
