What are some really good boat cover brands?

We have a 16ft runabout open bow. We are having difficulty finding a really good boat cover that wont tear on our window from the weight of water and snow. We have tried propping up the center of the cover, with a pole, but that makes tears also.

We are tired of spending hundreds on boat covers that tear before a year of use. Can you point us in the right direction? We have Overtons catalog, but there are so many to chose from!

Also, what can we use to keep the water and ice from collecting in the first place?

the problem is not the cover but the sharp edges on the windshield. go to your favorite hardware store and get some pipe insulating foam covers. they are allready slit. place then over the sharp edges of the window frame. this will protect your boat cover.

    hope this helps

check online at WestMarine.com. the best type is a heavy duty canvas but some of the vinyls are good. make a tepee shaped wood frame at each end of the boat to the ground and run an 18 foot long horizontal 2x4 between the frames.along the length of the cover run stretch ties under the hull so that the cover is stretched tight. leave the ends open for ventlation. sunlight can destroy vinyl which is why i use canvas. you will need a 10x18 tarp. if you want to partially close the ends, get a 20 ft. length. some good tarps can be found at Canvas.com.

  • Attwood, Carver, or Westland are good brands. All brands are good solid brands. If you are having problems with the center support or tearing, Attwood also makes a "shrink wrap" brand, which, you can put over the boat and use a propane tank with a torch to shrink wrap it so it is tight. On all I also recommend that you use a product like Damp Rid, which is a bucket of crystals that absorb water so it fights mold and mildew. Also, you need to find a place to store it to make sure it is covered, bottom line is that nothing is guaranteed if you leave it out in the elements. Also WINTERIZE your engine and outboard/inboard!

I have a Vortex Brand boat cover and I love it. It covers my ski boat very good. It has a lot of tie down loops and came with the straps. I have not had any issues. It think it is a great cover and for what I paid, It was a bargain, not to mention they gave me a 5 year warranty. It was the best price I could find on a quality cover.
