How do I make my text & icons smaller?

I was working on my computer & it froze, so I rebooted. When it came back up- my icons are all bigger, and my mail box is so big & can only see 5 unopened at a time. I went to my Facebook, and it is bigger too. How do I get my icons and such back to a smaller point?

Update:

Tim- I have a Windows XP. What resolution should I set it too? Do you know why it would do this when I rebooted? I can't stand it this big lol.

Update 2:

Tim- just did it- Thank you soooo much!!!!

this answer should work if you are using a version of Windows. You're not in SAFE mode, are you? It would say so in the corners of your screen. If so, restart the PC.

Windows and many programs allow you to change JUST the text, or JUST the icon size, but the way you describe it, it's the screen resolution.

Minimize all open program windows. A fast way to do this is press and hold the Windows key and press the "D" key.

If you have Vista: Right-click on desktop background (not on an icon, just on the background) and choose Personalize. Then choose Display Settings. There should be a slide-bar labeled "Resolution" make it a higher resolution, such as 1024x768 but probably higher. Click OK and it will give you a choice to keep the settings. If it makes it better, click OK/Yes. If you chose something wildly wrong just wait and it will go back to where you were.

If you have XP or other old Windows versions, Just click on the background and choose "Properties" and you'll see the resolution changer.

    Good luck!

icon predicament: correct click on your computer -> view -> choose desired dimension ---------- browser predicament: ctrl + zero OR view -> zoom -> reset (or zoom out) --------- there can be a concern together with your determination. correct click on in your computer... XP: homes -> settings vista: customize -> show settings set it in your right display determination, you may also simply need to fiddle with the numbers. Don't fear in case your display will get screwed up, do not do something, your laptop will mechanically difference it again if you do not click on "hold"
