Have you ever stumbled across a photograph you've never seen before, from decades ago?

How did you feel?

My mother's first cousin has hired some company to take a bunch of old slides and turn them into photographs, or something. She has uncovered treasures that we never imagined. Tons of beautiful pictures of my grandfather when he was in his 20s and as handsome and vibrant as a movie star, pictures of my mother when she was a baby, pictures of my grandmother who died at age 36. I feel like crying when I look at the pics of my grandpa, just because the pictures are so incredible and his seemingly ageless soul truly shines through them.

Update:

This is my favorite picture we've found so far of my Papaw and my mother :oD

That photo is priceless, Linz :-)

I inherited the little photo "album" that my grandfather carried in his pocket. One of my last memories of him ~ well into his 80s ~ was of him sitting beside me on the couch, showing me his photos (three times in a row. lol) The day they got irrigation on the farm; a new car... stuff like that. A treasured memory.

  • Yeah, when my mom passed away, we went through old pictures looking for some to use for the PowerPoint presentation for her memorial service. We found so many pictures that we didn't even know existed, like pictures of my mom and dad just after they got married (they got married in 1957, to give an idea), wearing their bathing suits. It was absolutely hilarious. Mom was wearing this halter-style swimsuit, and dad was wearing what looked like Speedos, and they were leaning against a car. Mom was 19 and dad was 23 when they got married. Oh, and my dad? I swear, he was handsome enough to be a movie star when he was younger, and mom was absolutely adorable. She had the most amazing smile, it could literally light up a room.

There were also old pictures of my parents with my mom's parents (dad's dad died in '47, and his mom died in '68, I think), pictures of mom and dad with my dad's brother and sister (and their spouses), mom shaking her butt at the camera sometime in the 60s or 70s...

Oh, and I got to see a baby picture of my mom... she was born in '38, so it's a treasure.

How did I feel? Sad on one hand, because almost every single person in every single picture is dead now: Uncle Vick, Uncle Pete, Aunt Stella, Uncle Dwayne, Grandma, Grandpa, Mom, Dad... but it's kind of sweet to have seen them all when they were young, happy, and mostly carefree.

And that picture is adorable. Love the china hutch, too.

Yes it's happened to me, when my granddad died i saw photos of him when he was a teenager, he looked so young then yet ilooked old compared to what teens look like now, back then children where little adults and not children as they are now. The feelings i got where that which you would get from peering into another world, I imagine they were great times to live in.

Thinking about it, looking over those pictures made me ask myself a lot of questions, shame that i can't ask him about it now :(

I saw a picture of my grandfather, whom I never got a chance to meet, and they were amazing pictures of when he was in the army and got to travel the world. The pictures are now bigger and hanging in my dad's office. :)

Oh, recently I stumbled across a picture of me when I was a baby with some woman I didn't recognize. I said to my mom, "Who is that?" She looked at me, laughed, and said, "That's me!"

    She look so different. Hahah
