Question about Ripping?

I ripped some CD's to computer and they came out distorted. Playing the CD itself wasn't distorted, only after ripping and listening to it in playback from computer. Is there anyway to changing the loudness or ripping level to keep this from happening? Thanks.

Update:

Yes, I have tried rippin it again and it came out the same way. I am using WMP 11 and it is up to date. I have ripped other CD's just fine so it isn't because WMP is a piece of crap.

Update 2:

Thanks guys, I have already done the things that have been suggested (e.g., set for best quality) and re-ripped the cd but it has the same results. I am not even sure how a copy protected disk is supposed to react when trying to copy so I am not sure if this is the case here.

Well, it might be a read error...just try to rip them again, as per settings go to Tools -> Options -> Rip music, and change the the slider to Best Quality. This might help in getting a better quality. And also dont listen to music while ripping, that might help. It might also be the CD is copy-protected.

What software did you use? I use Media Player or Creative and they both adjust automatically although there are settings in each of them you can make to set your own preferences.

I sometimes get bad copies - I just delete them & rip again. I find it best not to have anything else happening on the PC whilst I am ripping as this does seem to stress the machine enough that I can hear distortion on the PC side copy.
