    Windows 7 is an operating system.

    There are many previous versions. Windows 7 is (currently) the newest.

    Windows 7 is basically the ironed out version of windows vista with a few extra gadgets thrown in.....

    ... just think of it as Microsoft's way of saying "vista is ****..we know"
