What colours do you decorate your christmas tree with?

Our christmas tree is usually decorated in the traditional red and gold, but I would like to see what other colors would go nice together.

Thanks

Last year mine was red, white, and silver. White lights, red bows, and silver bulbs. A friend of mine did purple, white, and silver last year and it was gorgeous. I didn't think it would look right but whatever works for you I guess. My parents tree is a "family" tree...all of our old handmade ornaments and ones my parents bought each other etc.

    Christmas Tree Colour Themes

Growing up we always had the traditional tree: colored lights and all the ornaments we had made or collected over the years. And my mom always made it just perfect and beautiful!

I am married now and this will be the first time my husband and I put up a full size tree (there was no room in our old tiny apartment). We only have a handful of ornaments we've collected (my mom kept most of my old ones) so far, so I'm going to buy some classic red, green and silver glass ball ornaments to fill the tree. I love classic Christmas colors!

But I have seen some gorgeous themed trees: white, silver and hot pink; green and gold; red and gold; white, silver and blue; silver and green...the possibilities are endless! Have fun with your decorating!

I hate themed Christmas trees. They are so restrictive and limiting. No one wants the same theme twice so people usually have no use for the stuff the next year. It's such a waste, not to mention expensive. So we have a free for all tree. We use white or colored lights - whatever we feel like that year. And all our great ornaments we have made, collected or received as gifts. We wind up with every color imaginable and lots of it. It's makes for very a personal decoration, which is the most beautiful to me.

At my parents's house, we've gone to doing just red and gold. We just use beads, bells and bows. My mom used to have tons and tons of ornaments they'd collected over the years, and we'd put them all on this huge tree, but she got really tired of all the work, so we just stick to the simple, smaller tree with red and gold.

Our tree at home has no specific colors. It's very much a rainbow. In the first place we use colored lights (we use white lights at my parents'), and we've started collecting ornaments between the two of us now, like my parents used to. Plus we have some of the older ornaments we each had as kids - he has a lot of stuff he made in Boy Scouts!

Having seven kids, we have an abundance of homemade ornaments, as well as ornaments that they chose/bought. Therefore we don't really have a theme.

I have always admired the silver and blue trees, as well as the silver and gold, silver and red, etc. But I wouldn't want to not put up my kids' ornaments, which they LOVE. Every year when we are decorating, one of the kids will say, "hey remember THIS one..."

Try going to a specialty floral shop and looking around. I've seen some very pretty color schemes. Of course their ornaments are very expensive. But you could recreate the color scheme.

When considering a theme to complement your home décor, consider lighting, colour combinations, textures, and the mixing and matching of various materials.

    • Modern metals – a contemporary, glowing look that starts with metals such as warm coppers, antique iron, glittery gold, rustic brushed tin or shiny silverplate. Mix with matte or shiny glass balls and metallic stars. Glitzy ribbon garland completes the look.

    • Dramatic velvets – Velvet touches in rich red, blue or black can begin with tree decorations and carry through to the tree skirt, stockings and table linens.

    • Red is hot – Traditional red looks new this year, when put with silver accents. Start with silver-beaded snowflakes, add aluminum and wire figures and deck with silvery garlands to complement rich red ornaments.

    • Exotic ornamentation – Think beading, embroidery, Indian silks and jacquards. Add touches of elegance with jewel-tone glass ornaments trimmed with gold flourishes, beaded stars and snowflakes, sequined balls and beaded tassels such as those available at Canadian Tire.Instead of tinsel, try using beaded garland.

I don't have my own christmas tree... isn't that sad

But if I did I would do:

    silver and red

    gold and red

    red, green, and silver

    or maybe silver and gold

    I can't wait till i get a christmas tree
