System Software is software required to run your PC, like the Windows operating system, the graphics drivers, sound drivers, etc. etc. Everything else, like Warcraft III, Unreal Tournament 2004, Excel, Winamp, etc. is application software (software used by and for applications)

Application software is meant for ur own application e.g MsOFFICE
System software is the OS installed In ur pc.
So an appln software needs a system software for its operation
