how much moisture is an unvented dryer putting out into a room?
My friend has her dryer vented into her dirt floored basement, she puts a stocking over the hose to catch the lint, her home has a musty nasty odor, I say the moisture from the dryer is causing some of the problem & suggested she vent the dryer outside, she disagrees with me & says the dryer in helping to keep the dirt floor dry, who's right??

Well think about it...all the moisture from the wet clothes is going into the house.....making it a giant humidifier. OTOH, there's no more moisture than if she hung the same clothes inside on a rack.
Dirt floor? That's probably the biggest source of moisture! Even though the dryer is drying the floor, that moisture doesn't just disappear. Unless you vent the house, the moisture is still there. It sounds like she should be running a de-humidifier.
BTW, I hope it's an electric dryer she's venting inside.....otherwise she's also venting gas exhaust into the house.

Well I cant tell you how much but I know it makes my walls and windows drip. With the colder months and having an uncooperative hose I leave mine off to warm and dampen the air. I guess she would know what is best for her hous

You are right, it's adding moisture, it should be vented to the ouside...she should run a dehumidfier in her basement instead.
