I use Format Factory, which is compatible with many different types of formats, including most music and video formats. Just Google "Format Factory" and it is right there. It's free, which is always nice.

I generally use Xilisoft Ipod Mate to convert the dvd or avi formate movies to Iphone/Ipod format. This is save the converted file on your computer. You can open itunes and add the converted file to your videos and it runs fine for me. Hope this helps.
