Did anyone see the missile/meteor off the central coast just south of Monterey today?

We were driving north on 1 and just as the sun was setting there was like a really fast, bright light way up in the sky that traveled out toward the sea. It left a trail like an airplane but it was wayyy faster, like a comet or a shooting star. This must have been 10 miles out and as high as an airplane.

Then we saw about 10 emergency vehicles heading south on highway 1 from Monterey and PG.

Any idea what this could have been?

It may have been a missile launch from Vandenberg AFB.

As a lifetime California resident of 51 years I have seen many things like you describe.

About 6-8 months later the Military may admit they shot something off. But then again maybe they will say nothing.

    But I am just guessing.

Many of those launches are kept top secret.

Please keep in mind I am not trying to promote some odd conspiracy theory, however I am just commenting on previous experience.

This may well be the most honest answer you get from this site.

I do not think the Emergency Vehicles you saw had anything to do with what you saw over the ocean.

    Edit:

I just saw on the news it was part of the Leonid Meteor Shower.

Consider yourself very lucky to have caught a part of it.
