baby spitting up, and constantly hungry.. gassy and crying alot..?
so i have been strictly bf-ing until yesterday. i introduced a little similac.
but thursday my 6 week old started being very fussy.. arching her back, screaming constantly, very gassy, its really hard to get her to burp, and then she spits up really bad from not burping.. she acts liker her stomach is hurting her really bad.. she is drooling alot, and we are getting very tired from exhausting every noisy, quiet, moving thing we have in the house to try and calm her down-the bouncer..the swing.. swaddling her, dancing with her, rocking her, music.. i have tried gripe water, and gas drops.
the dr said it was probably something i ate..but i went without dairy for a week and no change. the dr says she thinks she is just going thru a growth spurt and she is cranky.
im supposed to call tomorrow if its not any better.
but she will eat from the breast for about ten minutes,,and become uninterested, fall asleep, not burp and then spit up..
so i try to keep her awake to eat longer to make sure shes getting hindmilk, but then she spits it up anyways..
she is wanting to eat like every thirty minutes...and thats just..crazy..lol.
so im pumping to make sure she gets the thick stuff in the little bit that she drinks..but then she drinks about 4 oz from the bottle..then still eats her hands and sucks on everything..
then i give her formula.. she drinks about 3 oz and goes to sleep for awhile.. then wakes up with what im guessing is gas or a tummyache from that as well..
we think she may either have colic or acid reflux..
can anyone give me any advice.
this is our first child and we are at our wits ends..she screams so loudly and i feel horrible that i cant make her feel better. ;[[

I am going through the same thing right now! I mean down to every little thing that you said. And I know how much it hurts to hear your baby cry in paing and you not know what to do to make them feel better! Its the worst thing I have had to go through. But I took my little girl to the doctor and he said that she has colic and there really isn't anything you can do except just try and soothe them any way possible. I use the gas drops and they work sometimes but not all of the time. He suggested putting her in a bouncy or her car seat and setting her on the washer while it's going (of course while someone is right there with her) because the vibrations can be soothing. But other than that there is really nothing you can do but you really need to stay calm because they can feel when you start to get upset and nervous which upsets them more. Believe me I know it is hard because I am going through it now but it does end. Hang in there!

My daughter had similar symptoms and was put on Axid at about 2 weeks old =(. That combined with switching her formula to Enfamil Nutramigen with a tablespoon of rice cereal and giving her Mylicon gas drops regularly was the only thing that finally worked. She would wake up in pools of fluid and projectile spit up all day and scream and arch her back... We're really thankful this combination worked. However, she is now 9 months old and any time we try to put her on Enfamil Gentlease for more than a day she begins spitting up again. We're kind of at a loss for what to do as far as finding a way to ease her back to regular formula and eventually cow's milk. We were told it would be a long time before she would be able to drink cow's milk.

stop supplementing with formula right now! she only needs your milk and do not feed her every 30 mins you are probably reading her cries wrong! babies cry when wet, hungry, overstimualted, overtired. when babies are hungry they make a kind of "coughing" noise at the begining of the cry and its more of a waa waa waa cry. if shes screaming her head off she is most likely overtired or overstimualted. it does sound like she has acid reflux (my baby is 6 week an has that) flailing and screaming means she is overtired! swinging and all that stimulates her not comforting....just swadle her up tight and put her in for a nap - try to do it before she gets to the point that shes flipping out (like when you see her yawn) my baby screams not matter what when she needs a nap and there is nothing i can do about it so i let her. i lay her downa and pat her back and whisper that its okay and i love her and after a few minutes she settles down an falls aslep. if i pick her up when shes screaming and overtired it just wakes her up more and she flips out for longer...when she wakes up after only a small time and flips out i do the same thing it takes babies 20mins to fall asleep...and their sleep cycle is every 45 minutes which means the get to conscienceness every 45 and if there is loud noise or whatever they can wake up and be upset just comfort her and she will go back to sleep.

Please post what you find out from your doctor. My son is 7weeks and he does the exact same thing except doesn't seem to be hungry as often. He will wake from a deep sleep with gas pain. He does not burp but will spit up. I read today about hyper-latation which sounds just like what we are experiencing.

It's just the age.
Hang in there! It does get easier. The formula probably upsets her tummy more than anything you're eating does. She probably just has what is known as normal newborn colic.
Keep up with breastfeeding. It's totally healthy for her and it's better for her than formula for sure. I wouldn't give her cereal or baby food. It will probably upset her sensitive tummy even more!

pumping doesn't get a lot of hind milk. have you triend block feeding? even if she falls asleep feed her from the same breast the next time and keep dairy out of your diet. allow that at least 2 weeks.
also, her wanting the breast often doesn't just meean she is hungry. lots of babies want the breast for a comfort thing. wanting to suck doesn't jsut mean hunger. sounds liek it could be acide reflux. she may not be burping because she doesn't need to. ltos of breastfed babies don't but the acid reflux is making her spit up.

That is classic acid reflux. Your doctor can get her on meds to help. Do you eat a lot of dairy? I know my daughter is allergic to dairy protein (not the same as lactose intolerance) and the doctor can test for this with a poopy diaper.
Best of luck, call your doctor in the morning.
