Would Potatoes Au Gratin from a box be classy enough to fix for a dinner date?
I'm trying to plan ahead for an upcoming rendezvous and buy everything in advance. I'd like this dinner to be really classy, because I'm looking to impress him, but I need something cheap and easy to prepare. The local grocery store has Potatoes Au Gratin available in a box, which would make this dinner fast, cheap, and easy, and since that's sort of what I'm going for with the whole theme, I wonder if this would be good enough?
Thanks in advance!

Of course, potatoes 'au gratin' is just a side dish. Not the main course. Easy to prepare. Just make it look fancy. After cooking, place it in a tray, as sprinkle the top with just a smidgen of paprika, Sprinkle it between two fingers, this way you won't put too much. One slice of American Cheese (or any cheese) cut into thin strips and arranged in the center of the potato plate in the form of a star * . Perfect. Fancy. Classy. Easy as sin. Good Luck.

If you really want to impress him I would make something homemade. I know cost is an issue for a lot of people these days and I have a really easy recipe that's delicious as long as you like seafood. All you need is shrimp, butter, fresh garlic, and linguine noodles. Try to get raw shrimp they have some that is peeled and deviened. If you buy the cooked shrimp it gets overdone. All you need to do is fry the shrimp (they turn pink when they are done), make the noodles, and then create a garlic butter sauce by slicing the garlic and frying it in butter. Season it with salt and (if you want) pepper. It's simple and delicious.

you can dress up most box items. for potatoes, use the suggested amount of milk then substitute 1/2 of the water with additional milk and 1/2 water. (i've even used all milk for a more creamier texture). use real butter not margarine follow the mixing instructions, then before baking ( after potatoes are in dish) top with some shredded sharp cheddar. about 1/2 to 3/4 cup and bake.

is there any other kind than from a box? To really make a big impression you should also serve him some Tuna Helper, to get his taste buds going.

I think it would work nicely. I like thowing some cubes of ham in there too, and topping with a little extra shredded cheese and then baking.
