What are the requirements and education needed to become a casting director? Please be thorough. Also, what are other careers in the film industry (behind the scenes) that are similar to a casting director? What are the requirements/education of those?

This is a serious answer: The most important factor is having a personal connection which will enable you to do an internship every summer. If you can arrange the internships, then it will be worthwhile to apply to film school. If the internships will be in Los Angeles, the private University of Southern California is by far the best place to study. Good luck.

the requirements: a posting on craigslist or a casting website
the education: nothing
To be just a casting director only, I think just a public speaking and English class, and people skills, would be enough.
