Is my wisdom tooth getting infected or is it just irritating my gums?
My gums are a little sore, but something that leads me to believe that it could be infected is that the muscle in my cheek hurts a bit when I smile. The pain is very mild, but I want to be on the lookout for an infection. I've also been sick which I heard can increase your risk for infection. I have been rinsing with warm salt water. Any ideas? P.S. Please don't tell me "Go to the dentist." Supremely unhelpful. :)

Rinse with warm saline solution every 2 hours. That and taking ibuprofen is all you can do by yourself.

It might be your wisdom tooth. When its about to come out it hurts a lot you sometimes get headaches, your gum is sore and lots more.
And I would highly recommend you to see a Dentist.
It is better to be sure now than regret it later!
