is my pied a boy or girl?

I have had "him" for a a little over a year. and he is about a year and a half.

he talks and whistles. waves with his feet. and ever will rub his butt on your hand if you move it around underneath him.

but today and a few other times he backed himself into the corner of the cage with his tail up.

never laid and egg, and isn't acting like he is in pain. and is not acting anything like my female bird who was egg bound.

it seems like he might just have to poop. idk he seems to have some trouble pooping lately. what should I do?

Assuming, you are talking about Cockatiels.

Then it is quite simple to tell the sex of your bird.

Look under the wings and if you see what appears on the feathers Yellow spots and the tail has bars ,then your bird is a Female

If there are none of these then your bird is a Male.

Your bird will have completed it's first moult so these signs will be quite easy to recognise.

The stance that is taking could be that of a female, but you will only know by looking for the signs.

Try giving it some Broccoli , this will help it poop

If it is just having trouble pooping increase fruit in diet to get everything moving and decrease seed available, not many birds live on seed alone in the wild so a seed only diet can cause problems in pet birds. Try some apple, lettuce, banana or whatever else you have. But keep looking at the butt area and if you think it is getting egg bound, you will see a large lumpy bum, increase humidity (water in a warm area) and give a nice dark area to hide in.

I am guessing you are talking about a cockatiel. Only a vet can wager a guess at their gender as their genitals are internal...but the two biggest clues for sexing your bird (lol) are that

    1) boy birds tend to have brighter colors, as in the orange in their cheeks and yellow in their mohawks look more bright then a female and

    2) Males typically are much more vocal then females. If he likes to sing and whistle a lot, and has bright colors I would guess its a boy.

The other stuff he is doing (rubbing his butt on your hand and putting his tail up in the back of the cage) are just his/her way of acting out natures 'urges' and are nothing to be alarmed about. (or at least thats what our vet told us about our cockatiel)

hen cockatiels are pretty quiet as the **** bird does most singing, whistling etc. Good indication is the prominant bars of a hen which are all down the tail feather.

check diet - what are you feeding him/her

    drinking more ??

sound like his a boy, try giving him a small amount of cabbage but not to much it should help him poop, DO NOT give him a laxative as this may kill him.

dont listen to anyother aswer. just look under the tail if the tail has bars its a gir if not a boy.

It's a boy and give him a laxative. Or call the vet.
