Besides love, should it be about race or culture?? (African IR)?
My friend is Somali and I am also East African. He married a Black American woman & I am currently dating a White American man.
He always tells me how disappointing it is that this is who I fell in love with, as I will not be able to retain my culture, etc...yet...he didn't marry within his culture. He married a black woman who knows nothing about his culture. In fact, she even admits the only commonality is their skin color!
She does not seem interested in his culture at all.
The guy I am dating is very interested in my culture and has already begun to learn two of my native languages as a surprise for me. He also is planning a trip for us to visit some of my family back home.
I am not saying that my Somali friend should be taken seriously, but why does he (and many others) agree that RACE trumps CULTURE?

Wow nice guy you're dating..learning your native languages is a lot of work!
Its just a fear of the unknown.
He wants to marry black because thats prolly all he knows. If he ventured out and expanded his mind, mingled with other races and cultures,he'd be more accepting of them.
Race does not trump culture nor do I think culture trumps race.
I think love makes it all happen.

look at all the divorces & single parents you have these days, the divorce rate in the United States is quickly approaching 150% these women once thought that they were in love . love is blind. love should come last than anything too many women these days are selfish & only looking for love which affects their children.
you should marry for Stability , Money and health. If you’re both poor, unemployed, and homeless, then you’re all set for disaster. marry not just for yourself but for the other person, too.
Also make sure that your intended’s financial behavior is like your own. If Mr. Frugal marries Ms. Credit-Cards-Are-Free-Money, there’s going to be a disagreement sooner or later.

Generally speaking, i find it easier to date someone of the same culture or upbringing as me. The color of your skin will not dictate who you are as a person.
And I think it is awesome that he is learning to speak your language and learn more about your culture.

it is not authentic, I particularly have an Ethiopian buddy and distinctive friends from distinctive worldwide places from Africa that gets alongside properly with modern African American. sure, we'd have our difference in lifestyle, values, and existence type yet maximum do no longer hate African individuals. yet that is going to teach you that their is racism in each lifestyle and race. i might tell her no longer each black adult adult males acts the comparable, and that she needs to strengthen her image of African American lifestyle as an entire because of the fact on the top of the day she is black climate she is from Ethiopians, u.s., and so on.

Race does NOT trump culture... Black Americans in general are TOTALLY detached from any kind of culture and are very very resistant to learn other's. They themselves almost have no culture of their own, and mostly celebrate being sorry.
