Small Energetic Dog Breeds?

Hey. I was wondering if you know of any small energetic dog breeds? I really like border collies, but where i lie i can only have a dog that is 16" or smaller :(. So, are there any small border collie-ish dog breeds?

Thanks in advance

Try a puggy, yorkie, pomeranian, samoyed, or jack russell terrier which is very energetic.

    A Shetland Sheepdog (Sheltie)

They have almost the same energy level as a Border Collie.

Very smart dogs, they excel at Obedience and Agility.

If you have a size restriction though, it makes me think you are living in an apartment or somewhere without a yard.

Neither a BC or a Sheltie are going to do well in a restricted living environment. They need a TON of excercise and a yard.

You need to spend hours a day excercising the dog. Not just leaving it in the yard to self exercise.

Also, the Border Collie breed standard says 18-22 inches. There is a great chance-since so many Border Collies wind up in rescue- that you can find an undersized Border Collie.

My herding instructor has a very small Border Collie who probably only stands 16".

I have owned a Jack Russel Terrier in the past, A boston Terrier and currently a Mini Dachshund. The first two can be very VERY energetic. My mini dachshund is also very energetic, but she also is a 'cuddler'. I could be wrong, but I don't recall seeing any small border collie type dogs, but with all the new breeds appearing today, who knows?

Jack Russell Terriers are a wonderful small breed, they should not weight more than 17lbs. and are loving dogs that want nothing more than to be loved and cared for by their master. I love mine she is so much company and a real companion.

Google Jack Russell Terrier and you will find lots of information about them. They are very hyper and need to go for walks or have a place to run every day.

I have a Papillon, super smart... really small. (mine's only 5 pounds, but she's tiny for a Papillon). Her name is Ginger. She was potty trained in 2 days, knows: sit, down, "bang bang", come, "gimme five" and we're working on dance. She's only 7 months old and I've only had her for 2 months.

Good thing about Papillons: they ADAPT to their owner's life style. If you're active, so are they, if you're more relaxed.. ding, you got it, so are they! PLUS, I got mine for 200, because Papillon's (at least where I live) aren't that popular of a breed like terriers or yorkies or etc.

Jack Russel Terriers are very energetic and smart. Although they're the type of dog that you have to put time into training, otherwise you will have a monster on your hands! Mine will actually heard sheep with my heelers, they're great dogs!
