Am I double pointed knitting correctly?

I have just started my very first double pointed knitting project!! I'm excited that I'm going to create my very own iPhone cozy. =] I'm using a four needle set (three that hold the stitches and one to work with) and I just wanted to know, is it normal to knit stockinette with circular knitting (especially with double pointed needles instead of two circular needles)? I started doing my first few rows and I noticed that I was knitting stockinette without even purling every other row. Is that the norm with this style of knitting or did I do something wrong, like twist my stitches by accident?

Any help will be greatly appreciated. =]

I do do the whole 'best answer' thing.

You're doing fine. New techniques take practice, and your project is big enough to get some practice in, but small enough that you can finish it quickly.

By the way, I don't ever pay full price for craft books. My local public library has lots of them, both old classics and some with newer techniques, there's lots of knitting websites and web groups out there, and the used book shop also has plenty of craft books, if I want a home reference book.

You did nothing wrong. That's the beauty of knitting with 4 needles in the round. You never have to purl unless you are doing a pattern which includes knit and purl such as ribbing.
