Are there any real work at home jobs out there?
I have searched many times over, and never have found anything that doesn't want me to pay them. Is there anything on the web that is for real?

First of all, you should never need to pay a fee for jobs like data entry or taking surveys. Most of these types of programs are either outright scams or are misleading people regarding how much money you can realistically earn.
However, there are legitimate jobs that can be done from home while online. Here are some that I have done at one point or another since 2004. I'm still doing most of them, particularly writing articles, publishing, and affiliate marketing through my own website.
1) Freelance writing: If you have a reasonably good command of the English language, you can write articles on almost any topic and sell them to webmasters like me who are looking for relevant content to post on their websites. Some site owners and Internet marketers will even pay you to rewrite and/or proofread articles. Note that you should never be required to pay any upfront fees for this type of work. If a company tries to charge you a fee in this situation be very careful -- it could be a scam and the offer may not be legitimate.
2) Affiliate marketing: You can sign up as an affiliate with networks such as Clickbank, Amazon, Commission Junction, and many others, which will allow you to make money by advertising other people's products and keeping a percentage of any sales resulting from your referrals to the merchant's site(s). Although some people spend money for this type of advertising, it can be done for free by posting your referral links in forum signatures (be careful not to spam the forums, however), on free blogging services such as Blogger, or as free classified ads. If you are willing to spend a small amount of money at the beginning, you can purchase our own domain name and hosting service, which will allow you to advertise your affiliate products freely on your own site.
3) Sell physical goods. If you have any sort of tangible goods that you don't need or can make yourself without too much hassle, there are sites that will allow you to set up shop online and sell them for fun and profit. Ebay and Amazon are the most obvious choices here, but there are many other alternatives that may offer you more favorable terms.
4) Get paid to post. In addition to getting paid for writing full length articles, you can also be paid for posting smaller blocks of text such as comments on a forum or blog, short blog posts, links to websites with short snippets of text, short answers to questions, or brief reviews of products or websites. The forums at DigitalPoint.com and Amazon's Mechanical Turk section are two good places to connect with people who will pay you for these types of services.
5) Be a virtual assistant. This is a job that has been noticeably gaining in popularity over the past few years as more webmasters are trying to expand their operations and outsource some of their more time-consuming tasks. A virtual assistant (VA) job involves a variety of administrative tasks that can be done online. Some common examples include moderating forums and blogs (proofreading comments and deleting spam), uploading and downloading files, resizing and posting images, and performing basic customer service functions through live chat or instant messaging platforms. As with freelance writing, you should never have to pay any upfront fees for this. You can look for VA jobs at the DigitalPoint forums mentioned above or at some of the larger freelance sites such as Elance.com or GetAFreelancer.com.
